At the heart of the thriving early industrial community known as Rittenhouse Town, the first paper mill in America was built. It all began when, in 1687, papermaker William Rittenhouse followed other Quaker and Mennonite families emigrating to the newly formed neighborhood of Germantown (founded in 1683). William partnered with Philadelphia’s first printer, purchased a 20-acre plot of land along Paper Mill Run (a tributary of the Wissahickon Creek) and, with the help of his son Nicholas, built the first paper mill in British North America that otherwise could only be delivered from England. For the next 40 years, the Rittenhouse family were the only papermakers in America.

Built in the early eighteenth century, the Belmont Mansion is one of the finest examples of Palladian architecture in the United States. The historic Belmont Mansion is not only beautiful inside but also boasts a spectacular view of Center City Philadelphia in the distance. The property offers a variety of different options for your ceremony and reception. In chilly weather, host your guests in the Cornelia Wells Conference Center and Banquet Hall. On warm spring or summer days, exchange your vows outdoors with the cityscape in the background. The property is surrounded by lush greenery, enveloping your wedding celebration in intimate seclusion and breathtaking scenery. Create a reception space under the Tent Pavilion. Decorate the Pavilion with string lights, so that when night falls, the lights will sparkle away and create a romantic ambience. Bell Gate Farm is the perfect backdrop for any kind of event. I have one rule, however, there will never be more than one event per day. I firmly believe that you cannot concentrate and give supreme customer service when there are multiple activities going on the same day. When you rent Bell Gate, you are getting every nook and cranny, and that allows us to play a little bit. We can have a cocktail hour at the pool, but move dinner to the barn, and it feels like you’ve changed venue’s completely.
