At the heart of the thriving early industrial community known as Rittenhouse Town, the first paper mill in America was built. It all began when, in 1687, papermaker William Rittenhouse followed other Quaker and Mennonite families emigrating to the newly formed neighborhood of Germantown (founded in 1683). William partnered with Philadelphia’s first printer, purchased a 20-acre plot of land along Paper Mill Run (a tributary of the Wissahickon Creek) and, with the help of his son Nicholas, built the first paper mill in British North America that otherwise could only be delivered from England. For the next 40 years, the Rittenhouse family were the only papermakers in America.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Curtis Hall is surrounded by a 45-acre arboretum created by Frederick Law Olmsted, landscape architect for New York City’s Central Park. The NSCDA/PA owns its Headquarters House located at 1630 Latimer Street in Philadelphia. Built by and for the Dames under the leadership of Mrs. James Starr, Jr., the house has served as the Dames home since its completion in 1923. Marion Coffin, one of the first female landscape architects, was instrumental in desgining the garden which is a four seasons delight to all who use the house. Today the 100-year-old structure hosts downtown Philadelphia’s most timeless weddings, from the airy 12-story chamber where couples recite their vows to the well-appointed wedding suite tucked away in the spacious, delicately detailed cocktail hour mezzanine. When it comes time to dance and dine, custom draperies and lighting transform the atrium to an intimate ballroom — and a canvas for decor both tastefully simple or ornately embellished. A full on-site kitchen, newly installed by Constellation, ensures a fresh, delicious culinary experience for guests at very morsel.

Arch Street Meeting House is a historic wedding venue located in Old City Philadelphia. The land on which Arch Street Meeting House stands was officially deeded to the Quakers in 1701 and used as a burial ground until 1872. The building was constructed in stages from 1803-1811 when need arose of a larger Meeting House in Philadelphia. The site is still an active place of worship in addition to being used as an educational museum space, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2011. It is frequently rented for conferences, weddings, dinners, and graduations. The building sits on just shy of 2 acres, and our grounds include both grassy & brick spaces and lots of mature trees. The entire site exudes an overall historic charm.

The Ballroom is part of the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center. Formerly the Methodist Church built in 1843, the Ballroom is the original sanctuary complete with choir loft which is often used for wedding ceremony, gift table or head table. Stainless steel kitchen available for catered food warming. Chair lift onsite for handicap access to this second floor venue. Shuttle service available with parking for 80 cars.

The building is steeped in history and reflected in the original wood moldings, hand carved mahogany staircase, and mercer tiled fireplaces. Each of our 16 guest rooms was designed to have a look and feel that is entirely unique from the rest. The vibe is intimate, cozy, and warm. As you make your way west towards the Bank st. entrance there is a subtle transition with a bespoke feel that is modern and bright.
