Hi! Courtney here (that's me on the left!). Shutter and Sound is the brainchild of renowned wedding videographer Ryan Geldermann. Ryan began his wedding videography career in 2010 in Los Angeles and quickly became recognized as one of the top videographers in the U.S.. After relocating to DC and still receiving countless inquiries from all corners of the country, Ryan decided to recruit and train a few talented friends so he could continue offering the quality wedding videography he’s known for in SoCal and eventually over 10 cities. Shutter and Sound is a very small group of filmmakers dedicated to turning your big day into a work of art.

I recently used Shutter & Sound for my wedding and they were fantastic! The team was super friendly and really skilled at capturing all the important moments without being intrusive. Sandy Soohoo is a dream. She is extremely talented and creative, knowledgeable about the industry, realistic about the challenges, reliable and responsive- all while being a joyous energy and pleasure to be around. For those reasons, I couldn't have imagined a better photographer for our wedding - or person to be by my side throughout that entire day and evening. She works with a variety of mediums (lens, cameras, flash/no flash) to obtain a variety of styles for the photos, which all turned out unique and fully capturing different "perspectives" of the event - and most importantly, capturing the true essence of the joy and outward and inner beauty of the wedding. The photos turned out beautiful, have this journalistic yet ethereal feel- an artistic quality which I believe is a rare skill. I'm so thankful for having worked with Sandy!!

We met Emma over zoom in Jan 2024, she was polite, kind, and genuinely wanted to hear about on LGBTQ love story and our vision for our wedding day. Emma shot our engagement shoot in Asbury Park NJ (a place that is so special to us) we have such a blast grabbing drinks, pizza, and even ice cream throughout our shoot, which led to phenomenal engagement photos that truly fit our relationship and personalities to a T. During the shoot Emma communicated with us effectively, letting us be ourselves. Fast forward to the best day of our lives. 11.02.24– Emma shot our wedding day in Philadelphia, PA. She communicated with us over zoom the week prior to create a timeline and to discuss a list of things we definitely wanted her to capture. Rebeca & Andrew

  • Classic style
  • Starts at $7,000

Andrew and I met in the most random place, hiking in the woods 100 miles from where either of us lived. We spoke on the phone for months and saw each other when we could, while we lived hours apart. 7 Years later we're married, raising a handsome pup, and running a business together. Since inception we have won Best of Westchester 2020 for weddings and numerous other industry awards. We take a modern approach to photography. We will light you and pose you in the most flattering natural ways and place you in front of the most beautiful backgrounds, while being professional, respectful and patient with everyone on your guest list!

Awarded Best of Zola
I couldn't be more grateful that Rebecca & Andrew shot our special day. Not only are they wildly talented (see some photos below), but they also eased our wedding nerves with their incredibly friendly demeanor. They took time to get to know us, and helped us look good and natural during our photoshoot (not something I thought I was going to be very good at, but they proved me wrong). We loved working with Andrew & Rebecca so much so that we've actually worked with them a few more times after our wedding. They are the best, and if you choose them to photograph your big day you will not be disappointed.

Justin McCallum Photography

5.0

New York, NY
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $5,200

Hi! I’m Justin (he/him) and I’m here to affirm your love, make you feel like a fucking rockstar, and dance like a total fool. Oh, and take so many gorgeous photos of y’all. Obvs. My style blends both documentary photojournalism and fine art photography: coaching folks who are shy in front of the camera, then stepping back to capture authentic moments uninterrupted. I’ve been lucky enough to have my work published by A Practical Wedding, The New York Times, GLAMOUR, People Magazine and many other fabulous outlets. I'm a stereotypical Capricorn that loves drag shows, campy horror films, every dog I meet, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Awarded Best of Zola
Words can only go so far to describe Justin's work -- and Justin! He is so good at what he does and it shows in each and every picture. He takes the time to make you feel comfortable, especially for those who find picture taking out of their comfort zone, and he does it in the most genuine way. He actually makes you laugh and smile, not pretend for the camera. He's got a ton of ideas of course and knows what looks right in what setting or lighting, but asks for your input in case there's anything you really wanted to do, so you become a team. And as though you aren't already on a high from such a great session, when you see the pictures themselves, well... I'm a writer and even I find it's hard to place in words. I've personally never seen myself the way I did in those pictures he took, and it meant the world to me to capture that and the love my fiance and I share. Justin accomplishes all of that and more and I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone looking for quality photography, absolute professionalism and the kindest heart.

Hey, I'm Mary! It's nice to meet you. Summing up who I am in an "about me" is always difficult. What you must know: (1) I'm a nerd. If you want to talk video games, LOTR or Doctor Who, we HAVE to sit down for a bourbon or a coffee. (2) Yes, I will be out on that dance floor with you snapping away while joining in on the fun. And (3), while I'm a photographer first, supporting you during the planning process feels crucial to me - from building a timeline to having your back any way I can.

  • Classic style
  • Starts at $500

Hey there! My name is Emilee, and I am a Minnesota-native living in NYC! I've been photographing people and events for 15 years. I shoot families, couples, individuals, and pets, but my passion lies in wedding photography. I love capturing the whirlwind of a couples' big day, and seeing the love that is shared between them and all their wedding guests. It's magical and wonderful every. single. time.

Awarded Best of Zola
What a dream Emilee was to work with, from start to finish. OUR CEREMONY PARTY: we decided on a private, courthouse elopement on a Wednesday, a 60 person reception party on a Friday. In both, our biggest priority was having a photographer capture the intimate, joyful small details. We went with Emilee because of her eye for the beauty in the small things. She captured both our days perfectly. DOCUMENTARY STYLE: Emilee was perfect behind the scenes, capturing beautiful moments of our friends and family, small details of the courthouse with just us. I look back at some of these photos and ask "how did she even get that?!" She has such an eye. POSED: We had about 20 minutes dedicated to posed, family photos during our reception. Emilee had our families relaxed and laughing, quickly swapping members in and out. In some newlywed photos, we sought her advice for how to pose. She gave quick direction, made us feel confident, and always found the perfect light. COMMUNICATION SPEED: Delivered on every promise, quick replies. Emilee was 15 minutes early to both locations, we never had to worry. PERSONALLY: We met with Emilee about 4 months before our big days. We had coffee, talked about our vision and our biggest priorities. She immediately felt like a friend, and knew she was firmly on our team. If you're looking for a photographer to capture not only beautiful photos of yourself, but more importantly, the feeling in every room, Emilee is the photographer for you. We recommend wholeheartedly, and can't wait for another occasion to work with her. Sincerely, Mara James

Tati And Roman

5.0

New York, NY
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $6,000

We are a married couple of photographers. Within years of career, we discovered what’s really matters - we want to make people happy. Weddings have it all: new interesting people, touching stories, warm family relationships, tears. A lot of tears! Oh, don’t forget dances and sparklers! So, it’s fun! 🙂 Also, we love weddings because it’s the most challenging kind of photography in the field, it combines all the genres. It make you think, move and react quickly in constantly changing surrounding. We have no room for mistakes. So It’s never boring! 🙂

Awarded Best of Zola
Booking Tati & Roman was hands down the BEST decision we made for our wedding. We were looking for someone with more of an editorial style with a focus on genuine candid photos, and they absolutely delivered!!! Tati & Roman took the time to get to know us and what the vibe of our wedding would be like, and it translated SO well in their photos. When we told them we were leaning into a movie theme and wanted to do our engagement photos in a movie theater, they really took the idea and brought it to life in ways we hadn’t even imagined. People are STILL talking about how cool our engagement photos were. And now we all can’t stop gushing over our wedding photos!! They captured everything so beautifully - all of the love and absolute joy of the day just shines through each photo. They took so many gorgeous photos of our loved ones too - the best photos we've ever seen of many of them! Trying to pick only a few of our photos for this post feels IMPOSSIBLE. And even the album titles they sorted the photos into matched our theme (trailer, prologue, guest stars, etc) and we love the thoughtfulness!! We really leaned into a lot of silliness throughout the day, and Tati was always game and so excited to help us pull it off. We are SOOOO lucky to have had a photographer who was just as excited about the day as we all were - and a friend who fit right in with our loved ones :) If you’re considering booking Tati & Roman, do yourself a favor and DO IT!!!!!!

Celeste H. Photography

4.9

New York, NY
  • Photojournalistic style

Hi, I'm Celeste, I'm from a small town in Spain. Now leaving in NY. I have spent the last seven years getting to know new humans and documenting their stories and connections. How they got into that point of their life, and what makes them light up. I feel it is quite a responsibility and a significant honor to be able to create this legacy for them.

Awarded Best of Zola
We hired Celeste (and her second shooter) for our wedding and are incredibly happy with our decision. From the engagement shoot to our wedding day Celeste has been such a professional and a pleasure to be around. We do not love attention so we greatly appreciate how easy she is to work with, and how natural everything felt during our photo shoots. At our engagement shoot, she made us feel so incredibly comfortable (coming from two people who are admittedly very camera shy and not big on PDA), and we ended up with the most gorgeous and effortlessly cool shots. Celeste brought amazing energy on our wedding day, and helped bring out the best of us in pictures. Celeste was thorough in preparing the wedding day shot list ahead of time, and got all of the portraits we wanted. We experienced some bad weather at the beginning of the day, and Celeste took all of the stress away by finding the most stunning indoor & covered spots for first look and portraits, and arranging for outdoor pictures when the weather cleared up. Best of all, she was able to turn around a preview / sample of the wedding photos within a day (!!!), so we were able to show her beautiful work to everyone who asked to see pictures during the weeks following our wedding. We are so incredibly happy with outcome of the photos and we couldn’t say enough great things about Celeste’s artistry and the experience of working with her. 11/10 would recommend Celeste for both her professionalism and quality of work. We will absolutely be hiring Celeste in the future if we ever need professional photographs!

After working 10+ years in corporate America in NYC, California and traveling the globe, I found myself wanting more than what the traditional career path had set for me. I stumbled into photography while I was on maternity leave with my oldest and started a side hustle that I had no idea was going to turn into a complete career change years later. From the very first wedding I shot, I knew I was onto something. And ever since then, I haven't looked back.

Awarded Best of Zola
Kim-Trang Photography was the perfect choice for our wedding photography. From the start, Kim’s communication style was ahead of the game - she was warm, friendly, and we were excited to have her on our team. Kim is talented and committed and truly captured the joy and intimacy of our special day. She connected with us and our family in a way that felt more like having a friend there than just a vendor. One of our favorite touches was the sweet Polaroids she left with our wedding cards - the perfect surprise when we were feeling a bit of the post-wedding blues. We couldn't be happier with the sneak peeks we've seen so far and can't wait to see the full gallery. Kim-Trang Photography went above and beyond to make our wedding day truly unforgettable.

I'm in love with human emotions, either it's laughing till it hurts or tears of happiness. When your man hugs you so strong, that you can't breathe or when your dad is crying (for the first time in his life!) listening to your vows at the altar. I do believe, that these un-staged moments are more meaningful than classy portraits on a sunset (but no worries, you'll plenty of both!) If you feel like we are on the same page - let's talk! Write me a few words about who you are, tell me your story and let's create something beautiful together!

After talking to many photographers, we ended up booking Dasha and that's the best decision we've ever made. Through our engagement session, we got so comfortable in front of her camera and the photos turned out great. Ahead of the wedding, I had a final meeting with Dasha and you could tell that she cares about her couples and gives good advice on the timeline. On the wedding day, her professionalism and creativity made the day so easy for us, and we didn't need to give her a long shortlist because we trusted her. When we received the full gallery, we were so BLOWN AWAY. The editing style speaks for itself. We also loved the way she documented our special - it feels very natural and authentic. Many of our families and friends asked us who our photographer was, and we cannot recommend Dasha enough. Thank you, Dasha!!

For our wedding, he helped us plan our shot list, showed up early to the venue, and took incredible photos. I can't say enough about how he captured the joy and overall vibes of our wedding ceremony and celebration. On top of all that, he is quick to get the photos back! 10/10. Highly recommend

Mei Day Photography

5.0

New York, NY
  • Classic style
  • Starts at $1,200

Hi, I'm Mei! I first started out in photography just taking photos of friends in college, and now I get to photograph weddings, performances, celebrations, special events, and everything in between. Whether you're a natural in front of the camera or you hide whenever one comes out (like me!), I'm ready to capture you at your most radiant.

I am not exaggerating when I say that the thing we have gotten the most complements on since our special day is the photos themselves. Mei is phenomenal at capturing tender and exuberant moments AS THEY HAPPEN. Nothing looks staged because nothing felt staged. She was there with us to make every step of what could have been a very stressful day feel as fun, loving, and exciting as possible. From booking to planning to the wedding weekend itself, Mei was communicative, gentle, and intentional. She wasn't just there to capture the weekend, she improved it in every way. I could not imagine a better photographer to work with—from communication to vibes to the photos themselves, Mei is the best of the best!

I found my love for photography in a high school dark room, and I have continued to follow that passion to find myself today working as a hybrid photographer in both Film and Digital. I strive not to just take pictures, but to capture candid emotions and capture them in a beautiful way. My photography is personal and intimate. My approach is a mixture of fine art and documentary, I try to capture your moments and day as it happened but highlighting the special details and taking advantage of the best lighting. As a lover of history I love capturing personal and family histories that surround weddings.

Jenny Flora Photography

Before I ever held a camera, as a kid I was obsessed with organizing and reorganizing printed family snapshots in albums. This infatuation with captured moments, led to picking out my first film camera, a 35mm Pentax, film developing and darkroom printing in high school, and then my BFA in Photography Degree. From there, I worked in varied sectors of photography, but my true passion lay in documentary work that could bring about awareness of challenging global situations. I have published and exhibited journalistic series internationally, notably at Oxford University and Aperture Foundation.

Jenny is an absolute gem! We are so happy we found her to photograph our modern beach wedding at The Wave in Long Branch, NJ. Jenny has an amazing eye and took advantage of all the beautiful aspects of the venue allowing for a great variety of photos. And a good mix of candid and posed shots. It was so apparent that takes such pride in her work and loves the art, making us feel so comfortable and calm the entire time. Both my husband and I are camera shy but Jenny gave us clear direction and took into consideration everything we were and weren’t looking for. Jenny and Camilla were also extremely flexible and supportive the entire day. We can’t thank them enough for their enthusiasm and dedication. It’s so apparent in their work. Thank you, Chris & Danielle

Coco J. Photography

5.0

New York, NY
  • Editorial style
  • Starts at $5,500

A photographer with 10 years of experience specializing in love stories, portraiture, and immortalizing a moment filled to the brim with feeling. I’m French, which means I have aways been attracted to beauty, art, and romance & love to have a good time; my photography embodies this. When I am not behind the camera I enjoy eating good food and drinking wine (again, I’m French), going on roadtrips with my wonderful boyfriend, Max, and cuddling up with a good book - my favorite is The Pillars of the Earth - and my cutie pie cat, Jack.

Coco has a way of combining an artistic, personal touch with a natural photojournalistic style that gives the perfect wedding photos. Nothing is overdone or too staged or cheesy, and the photos evoke a timeless quality with all the human emotions packed in. Her down to earth energy, professionalism, and fun personality are an added bonus - an absolute pleasure to work with. She helped us plan by having several meetings before the day to discuss our wants, key moments we wanted captured, brainstorm ideas, etc. It's the one aspect of planning I never felt stressed about. And all of our guests wouldn't stop commenting on how great the photos were! I have hired her for my wedding, for personal photos, and have recommended her to multiple friends who have walked away happy and satisfied.

NOTE: I'm now taking on ONLY elopements and microweddings. A little about me...I love color; maybe the purple hair tipped you off? I almost always have a bag of (biodegradable) confetti on me. You never know when you’ll need it! I have a cat named Icarus who has too many toes and likes to dress up like a lion. I used to work in publishing, where I was mostly getting romance novels published in other countries. I’m in a family band. And I can’t believe my job is to document wonderful, beautiful people and the most joyful moments of their lives.

Awarded Best of Zola
Coming to the process of getting married as complete noobs (and VERY resistant to getting our pictures taken in general), my fiance and I were a little apprehensive about booking a photographer for our courthouse wedding. We're SO glad we did, and that we chose Sylvie! From the get-go she put us at ease and made the process fun, straightforward, and a complete breeze. She managed to capture so many otherwise unseen moments, from the second she arrived. When she returned the photos a few weeks later (she even sent us a sneak peek later the day-of!) we were amazed at how many little moments we had missed on the day, but that she was able to capture. Beyond the quality of the photos themselves, Sylvie's kindness, humor, and ability to wrangle what might otherwise be a tough group (hello toddler, olds, and 10+ people trying to take the subway together!) made our experience such a pleasure. She knows exactly how to make folks look their best in any situation, and finds unique and beautiful backdrops and settings wherever you are. Once the photos were edited and ready to view, she even sent us a printed calendar with 12 of the best shots in the mail. We were flabbergasted - it was such an expected treat! For a couple who usually doesn't like having their picture taken, the shots turned out great (largely due to Sylvie's talent, ha!), and we came away from the experience so grateful we had chosen Sylvie to capture the day. Her professionalism, poise, sheer talent, and general sense of fun and whimsy made our big day the best we could imagine, and the resulting gallery-worthy photos ones we and our families will treasure forever. Thank you for everything, Sylvie!

Allison Sullivan

New York, NY

I photograph love because I believe in it. I don’t believe in it in the way that a little girl believes in ferries or unicorns, a hopeful “I think it is real” kind of a belief, I believe in its power. I believe that love is the most important emotion we will feel in this lifetime and I believe it has the greatest ability for good. I believe that each human on this earth should have the opportunity to feel deeply loved and to love another deeply themselves. I believe that love is something that should be treasured, cared for, and celebrated.

Awarded Best of Zola
Allison was an absolute pleasure to work with. She is professional, talented, and passionate about her work. She made our day significantly less stressful by being organized and efficient. She has the most inviting personality, and we warmed up to her so quickly I felt like she was just another friend hanging out with the bridal party while she was taking my getting-ready photos. Last, but not least, our wedding photos are absolutely stunning and something we will always treasure. I could really go on and on, but all you need to know is you will not regret booking her!

We had our NYC wedding in St. Patrick's Cathedral with photos in Central Park and he knows exactly what to do for each of these places for the best photos. About wedding photographers in New York, NY

How much does a wedding photographer typically cost in New York, NY?

A New York, NY wedding photographer ranges from $400 to $20,000 and averages at $3,000. The cost reflects the number of hours included, if there is a second photographer, any prints or albums, and, most importantly, the experience of the photographer. But every snapshot they take is a priceless memory of your big day — way better than your bestie's blurry smartphone pics, right?

Do most photographers include a second photographer?

94% of photographers in New York, NY offer a second photographer, although it typically depends on the package you book! Second photographers are helpful because one person can’t be everywhere at once, and the second photographer ensures all the details are covered.

Which are the most popular photographers in New York, NY?

Some of the most popular photographers in this area include The Pros Weddings, SweetEmms Photography and Ashley Cynthia Photography.

What else should I keep in mind when booking a wedding photographer?

Are you interested in an engagement shoot as a test run? Drone photography? Wedding albums? All helpful things to ask about when you’re considering which wedding photographer to book!

What questions should I ask a wedding photographer in NYC?

It can be hard to know exactly what you should be looking for when you’re first exploring wedding photographers. You might want to ask questions like, "How do you capture the essence of 'us'?" or "How do you balance capturing our must have shot list without missing out on unexpected candid moments?" Don't forget the nitty-gritty, either. Inquire about their portfolio, if they've shot at your venue before, and how they navigate New York City’s unpredictable elements (because who hasn't seen a taxi photobomb?). Check out our full list of questions to ask your wedding photographer for even more info.

How long does it take to receive wedding photos in NYC?

Picture this: you've said your vows, had the time of your life at the reception, and now you're back from your honeymoon, eager to relive it all through your photos. But you might need to wait a minute, because good things take time! Most NYC wedding photographers will ask for a 4 to 8-week grace period to finalize your photos. They're carefully sifting through the raw emotions and dance-floor shenanigans to deliver a gallery that's as epic as your love story. We know how eager you are to relive those moments, but your stunning snaps will be worth the wait.

How many images are typically included in a wedding photo package?

Wedding photo packages in NYC are as varied as the city itself, but on average, you might see anything from 300 to 700 finished photos. But hey, it’s not just about quantity, it’s the heart-stopping, tear-jerking quality that counts. Make sure to chat with your photographer about what's important to you – maybe it's those candid laughs during the toast or that magical first dance. So, whether you’re aiming for a minimalist album or an epic visual novella of your day, rest assured you'll have enough photos to keep your memories fresh and your heart full!

Are engagement sessions typically included in wedding photography packages in New York City?

Looking for a photographer to capture the excitement of your engagement, too? Look no further. Many New York wedding photographers bundle engagement photo sessionsinto your wedding package, or will add them on at a reduced rate. It's like a romantic pre-game show where you and your SO can get over some of the camera-shyness. Plus, it's a fantastic way to test the waters with your photographer before the big day so you can make sure they’re a perfect fit (and to capture some great shots for your save the dates!).
