Renegade Outpost was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Chef Ellen and her team crafted a full vegan menu that was delicious and accessible. Her staff was communicative throughout the planning and while onsite. Would certainly recommend for catering of both small and large scale events.

    Jillicious Foods & Events

    5.0

    Brooklyn, NY
    • Starts at $20,000
    • Serves New York, NY

Jillicious Foods is an all-in-one catering and event company dedicated to creating inspired, authentic wedding, social and corporate experiences. For us, every client represents a unique opportunity to tell a new and delicious story. Chef Jill has been telling these stories for nearly three decades. We work in a variety of cuisines, from New American to Cajun to Southeast Asian; accommodate all diets, including gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian; and are proud to partner with local farms and purveyors throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City.

Jill nailed it! We were connected to Jillicious by our wedding planner (Modern Rebel-also recommended!), and felt drawn to the company values and ethos. After the tasting, we were sold! Jill put together a wonderful progressive cocktail menu, was flexible to our guest’s needs, and the food was delicious. The menu was a super fun mix of all different types of food with a real New York and celebratory vibe (Asian noodles served in mini Chinese take out containers, gorgeous pink gazpacho shooters, coffee in classic NYC cups, chicken and waffles!). During planning, Jill collaborated wonderfully with our wedding planner and was very active in making our (very bright!) design vision come true. At the wedding, our guests commented that they loved the food and the progressive cocktail style meant we had a rocking party all night long. Jill also skillfully managed our bar, collaborated with Roebling Liquor for purchasing, and helped us design signature cocktails-which were a big hit! We would highly recommend JIllicious and would use them again for any future events big or small! Thank you Jill and the whole team!!

We worked with Krisp for our wedding on September 1, 2019. We had the chance to visit their space in Brooklyn for couple rounds of amazing tastings including all kinds of appetizers, entrees, cocktail and even dessert samples. Oh man, the variety and creativity of their food is simply mind blowing! We could clearly tell that their chef always puts their clients' need at front and center of everything. During the seated dinner reception, our guests were pleasantly impressed by the food's beautiful presentation and deliciousness. They even helped us source a couple of Lady M crepe cakes for the dessert station! We didn't have to worry about anything at all throughout the event because every member of their team was so professional and efficient. Thank you to the entire team who worked so hard to make our big day so unforgettable.

    Purslane

    5.0

    Brooklyn, NY
    • Serves New York, NY

Purslane is part of The Oberon Group, a Brooklyn neighborhood-focused restaurant group with a commitment to sustainability. We started Purslane in 2012 as a way to serve our community outside of our restaurants. Sustainability wasn’t part of our origin story, but we realized we had an opportunity to make a difference in one of the most wasteful industries out there. We are seasoned experts in executing corporate events of all sizes, ranging from galas and banquets, to private dinners, to multi-day conferences for hundreds of guests, to weekly lunch drop-offs for your whole office.

    Awarded Best of Zola
Working with Purslane, and especially with Michaela and Justin, was a highlight of our wedding planning, and we feel incredibly lucky to have had such excellent partners in producing our event. The staff, especially Michaela and Justin, are responsive, friendly, accommodating, and professional; the space is gorgeous and beautifully maintained and operated; the food and drink were bountiful and delicious, and the service rivaled any of New York's fine restaurants. Best of all, the process of collaborating to make our wedding happen was easy and fun, and Michaela and Justin made us, the nervous engaged couple with a million things to manage, very confident that our day would not just go as planned, but would be a beautiful success. And indeed it was! Of all the people we worked with. Michaela and Justin deserve special mention. They are excellent communicators, responsive to the million questions and people that wedding planning entails. They are proactive collaborators, laying out a clear process and schedule not just for the day, but for the process of working to plan it. They provided useful, detailed documentation at every step of the way, including a very helpful list of recommended vendors. Every meeting with them was fun and friendly, but also productive, punctual and a good use of time. And of course, the food and wine tastings were delicious. Michaela and Justin were so helpful in giving us a sense of how the venue would perform in a situation we wouldn't get to experience until the day itself. They guided us expertly, making shrewd suggestions we might not have considered ("Since you have an open bar, we recommend choosing a heavier vegetarian entree.") My wife and I had a unique vision for our event, and these two not only assured us that it was possible, they worked with the park to accommodate myriad details, even down to the selection of lightbulbs. It's no exaggeration to say that without their help, the event would not have had the specific atmosphere we imagined, nor would it have been the roaring success that it was. All the confidence they inspired along the way paid off on the day, when Michaela, Justin, and their staff were a machine. The service was prompt, helpful, and invisible; the food was great, not losing too much in the translation from tasting to event; the wedding ran perfectly smoothly, with Purslane on top of the schedule, keeping the momentum of the night alive as they moved tables, served each course, operated the bars, and so on with perfect cadence. We are so, so grateful to Purslane for making our wedding a true dream come to life. Our only regret is not responding sooner to their lovely post-wedding thank you note, and for taking so long to write this review! To you recently-engageds with so many decisions to make, let me help you with this one: your search is over; just hire Purslane.

Are tastings available before booking a wedding caterer?

Who wouldn't jump at the chance for a sneak peek—or better yet, a sneak taste—of their wedding menu? Most wedding caterers in NYC know that the way to a couple's heart is through their stomach, and they stand ready to put their best plate forward. But do check in with your caterer about how they handle tastings—some offer them before you book (often for an additional fee), while others include full course sit down tastings of their menu offerings for you to select from after you’ve signed a contract.

What's included in the catering package price in New York City?

Let’s start with the most important part - the food. Typically, appetizers and a full meal are included in a wedding catering package (and sometimes even the cake!), but costs depend on whether you’re looking for passed hors d'oeuvres and a seated meal with individual entrees, or more of a buffet or family-style setup. The catering package often comes with the essentials, too - think tables, chairs, linens, silverware, and a professional staff ready to cater to you and your guests’ every need. That said, there are a wide variety of catering options available, so it's best to get the lowdown from your caterer directly. Will there be extra charges for setup and takedown? How about a corkage fee? Any chance of a complimentary food truck at midnight? Ask away, because chances are the right caterer will be able to work with you and your budget to achieve your dream culinary vision for your big day.

How far in advance do I need to finalize the menu with my caterer?

Generally, New York City caterers appreciate a final menu selection several months in advance of your wedding, and a final headcount several weeks in advance. Why? It's all about ensuring perfection, from procuring the freshest ingredients to coordinating the kitchen staff to ensure your menu is a showstopper.
