BrightWorks Photography

5.0

  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $5,400
  • Serves Brooklin, ME

I have a long history as a photographer, starting in my twenties with large format view cameras, publishing a book of black and white portraits of Newfoundlanders, studying under Ansel Adams at his Yosemite workshops, and with Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan at the Rhode Island School of Design. Now, my cameras and equipment are all the latest digital models, but I still rely on my experience and a well trained eye for capturing the optimal moment.

I truly cannot recommend Brightworks enough - it was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! The entire experience with Brightworks was incredibly thoughtful and personal. Steve, Rebecca and Gabe took such thought, care and time in getting to know us - first over Zoom and then at our engagement shoot - and it was so clearly reflected in our photos. They perfectly planned and executed out engagement shoot, having scouted several locations and taking into account timing and lighting, and the results were incredible! Steve and Rebecca were so helpful in providing posing tips and immediately made us feel comfortable in front of the camera - this allowed us to get the best possible photos while still feeling relaxed and like ourselves! This also meant that once we got to the wedding day, we were totally comfortable in front of their camera(s). Brightworks put a huge amount of thought and effort into structuring a timeline for the wedding day, which not only made the day run so smoothly but also allowed us to capture all of the moments we wanted. They solicited our thoughts and input, adjusting their plans accordingly, and seamlessly divided photography tasks between them not capture every angle of the day from the posed to the candid! Brightworks was able to capture so many moments not only between me and my husband but also for each one of our guests and loved ones, which was so incredibly special. Not only this, but they were so kind, receptive, responsive, and wonderful to work with through the entire process! We are thrilled with the results, and are absolutely in AWE of their work - do yourself a favor and book them ASAP!!

We were married within 3 months of our first date. “When you know, you know”, they say, and when we knew we wed. Something we bonded over early on was our love for traveling with cameras. What we continue to bond over: visiting as many countries as possible, making and consuming craft beer, sending real mail, reading the newspaper, meeting new people, and training/walking/cuddling our maniacal dog, Gatsby. After our San Diego courthouse-by-the-sea elopement, we settled in Brooklyn and turned our passion for photography into a business. Photography allows us to capture life's day-to-day moments, major milestones, and everything in between.

Laurel and Brian captured our wedding ceremony in Acadia National Park perfectly and were wonderful to work with. They made sure to meet with us prior to our wedding day to pick a location for the ceremony and photos afterwards. They knew the area so well and were professional, kind and helpful during the entire process. We would 100% recommend Aquadro Photography!

Hi! I'm Kristin. I would be so honored for you to give me the opportunity to capture your love. Whether it's with the people you love, the person you want to marry, or the work you do that brings you joy. I embrace you for exactly who you are! Let's have some fun and capture it so you can show your love off in the way you want it to be seen.

Not only is Kristin an incredibly talented photographer, but she is an amazing soul to walk through your wedding day with. You don't think about it, but you are around the photographer a lot of the time! While you are getting ready, as the nerves creep up, as you drive up to the venue (or whatever version of those moments are for you). Of course she was professional and delivered gorgeous pictures at the end of it, but she was a calm presence. My husband and I both hate pictures of ourselves and loved the moments she captured, again - she put us at ease! She flittered away at points, and when I got the pictures back wondered where/when was this? How did she get this shot? Overall we told her to focus on the after party portion and I still look back at the pictures and remember that conversation and the reason we were all laughing. One other note - we had an outdoor wedding and she worked with ease and swiftness getting all the obligatory family shots as the sun was setting without a sweat! They all looked amazing too!

Nostalgia drove me into photography at an early age - and lead me into my studies of photojournalism. We all innately know when we're at a critical juncture in our lives. For me, being able to authentically capture, to preserve those moments in a photograph is such a privilege. I know how much it means to me to be able to look back and say 'this is how things actually happened.' There is beauty in those truths. The kind of folks I work with share that appreciation.

Awarded Best of Zola
We cannot say enough good things about Corey! As people who aren't always comfortable in front of the camera, we wanted to find a photographer who really captured the energy of the day beyond just the traditional portraits. Corey's documentary style was exactly what we were looking for - when we got the first pictures back, we couldn't stop smiling because he truly captured the emotion of the day perfectly. All we've talked about since our wedding is how much we want to relive that one perfect day, and Corey's photos are the way we can relive every step of it. Beyond the quality of his work, which speaks for itself, on the day of our wedding Corey was somehow everywhere, getting shots of everything, while blending into the fabric of the day so seamlessly. We feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with Corey - we have a beautiful memories to look back on thanks to him!

Kam and her team at Kam Wickam Photography were an absolute pleasure to work with for our multi-day wedding celebration in Austin, Texas. From our very first interaction, Kam was prompt in her communication, easy to talk to, and incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions. On the wedding days, she was on it from beginning to end, capturing the most gorgeous, unique shots that truly felt like works of art. (I added some of my favorite film shots she took!) Hi! I’m Justin (he/him) and I’m here to affirm your love, make you feel like a fucking rockstar, and dance like a total fool. Oh, and take so many gorgeous photos of y’all. Obvs. My style blends both documentary photojournalism and fine art photography: coaching folks who are shy in front of the camera, then stepping back to capture authentic moments uninterrupted. I’ve been lucky enough to have my work published by A Practical Wedding, The New York Times, GLAMOUR, People Magazine and many other fabulous outlets. I'm a stereotypical Capricorn that loves drag shows, campy horror films, every dog I meet, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

My name is Ali Cushing, a NY-based photographer, working near and far, capturing life, love, and letting people be themselves. My goal first and foremost is contributing to you having a wonderful experience and getting to live in the moment by being first your friend, and second your photographer; making the photos about the day and not the day about the photos. I approach each opportunity with personalized care and whatever your photographic goals and day's plans, I’d love to be a part of and to document your story. All couples of all genders, ethnicities, ages, faiths, shapes and abilities, are more than welcome.

Awarded Best of Zola
I couldn’t be happier with my experience working with Ali! She reached out to me on Zola and I am so glad she did. I was impressed with her portfolio and I really loved seeing how she would capture little moments in the weddings she had done. We set up a video call before booking and we clicked. She is very calm and helped with my pre-wedding nerves. She worked with us on a payment plan and she was always very quick to respond to any of my questions. She really listened to what we wanted. She got to the venue early to scout out different shots and came to check in with me a couple of times before we even began taking photos, which I did not expect but was very sweet and considerate of her. When we were taking photos, she really helped to guide the more “posed” photos but she also captured a lot of beautiful candid moments. We had so many guests come up to us and compliment her and that was before we even got the photos back. She sent us our sneak peeks the next day and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. She captured so many beautiful moments and her style is exactly what we wanted. Nothing felt “overly edited” just perfectly genuine. I cannot recommend Ali enough. I cannot wait to see the full gallery of photos because I know they will be nothing short of perfect.

My husband is my second photographer, so we come as a photo team! Just like you, I have felt awkward in front of the camera. I’ve had photos taken of me that I didn’t like. When you go on a session with me, I will not only make you feel comfortable, but I will make sure you look good! I will give you prompts to keep you moving so you look and feel natural and comfortable. I’m sorry but there are some angles, and poses that are not flattering for everyone. Like, please don’t take a photo of me from below! Hello double chin! What I’m saying is, I Got You!

Awarded Best of Zola
Lacie captured moments that took my breath away. Her style and skill is every bride’s dream. She delivers everything you adore from those Pinterest and Instagram wedding photos. So there is no question she can deliver what she is looking for. And we are beyond thrilled with all of our photos. The sneak peeks are also so much fun (she sends a batch of photos shortly after she shoots you). But where Lacie shines and what I have to tell you about is everything else. She truly went above and beyond. She’s not just a photographer, she’ll be one of your favorite people on your special day. Yes, Lacie is kind and friendly and comforting and just the kind of person you need on your wedding day (and who you wished you roomed with in college). But she is so much more. Here are just some of the few meaningful things Lacie did that I noticed that I’ll forever carry with me. Firstly, I had a very important rosary I wanted to photograph, and with the chaos, I had forgotten. It would have broken my heart if I left it behind. Lacie remembered. I got fixated on an insignificant hiccup on my wedding day that could have ruined my day. Lacie redirected my attention to the things that really mattered and brightened up my mood immediately. Leading up to the wedding, Lacie advocated for me and my husband ensuring us she was fully dedicated to only us on the day, literally saying “You and Sean are my priority.” Nobody and nothing would take her attention away from us. She was always quick to respond to texts, I could go to her for quick wedding advice, and she’s genuinely so passionate about her craft. Lacie could really be a wedding planner with how much she knows. Other vendors loved working with her, especially our videographers. She was so quick, efficient, and took initiative. She gave them space and skillfully took turns capturing moments with them. With a big wedding party and spacious venue, we kept losing track of people for pictures, Lacie corralled them masterfully. She’s not afraid to get people to focus and get the photos done, but also in the most polite and respectful way. I watched videos of brides saying I wish this or that moment was captured. Sometimes I’d forget whether I had those moments captured myself. Then I go to Lacie’s photos and every single thing that brides mentioned got missed by their photographer she captured for me. Her vibe! She’s so positive and cheery. I was so nervous and also worried about how dark my church was. She got me excited about it after turning it into a positive saying it would look like the theater and she could absolutely work with it. I texted her a shoot list the night before our wedding. She carried that around and took it so seriously making sure she captured everything I listed. I made a Pinterest board of photos I liked and she remembered ones I forgot I included in there. She was my favorite vendor (tied with my incredible florist @dazyflorals) and the vendor I had no worries about it. I didn’t have to check in with her. I could trust her with my eyes closed. She’d be where she needed to be on time, professional, and prepared. I’m going to miss her. Sign her and soak up her sunshine for me, will ya?

I shifted from corporate shootings to families and weddings because it gave me this warm fuzzy feeling when I edited my couples and families photos. Grace was just amazing. For a day that was overwhelming and very stressful, I cannot thank her enough for her calm and kindness. My now husband and I are usually not "photo people", as we tend to be more introverts than anything else, and she went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Her professionalism and guidance during the shoot can be described as more than stellar. I will definitely recommend her to all of my friends who will be getting married soon. During all the chaos, I was extremely thankful to have chosen her as our photographer.

Kaitlin Toto Photography

I’m a storyteller. That’s what I’m here to do - document the story of one of your greatest celebrations. My work is heavily focused on the authentic, unplanned moments. My approach is observational and real, creating images that are genuine representations of you, those you love, and the space and moments you share. I create true-to-life images that will bring you back to some of your sweetest, most treasured moments for years to come. These images aren't just for you, after all - they're for the branches of your family tree that have yet to grow. For the generations to come.

Awarded Best of Zola
Kaitlin is amazing to work with. As a photographer who has done weddings myself, I had high standards and specific requests that weeded out a lot of people during my search. Kaitlin immediately stood out to me as someone with the ability to capture the essence of a couple. As I browsed her galleries I felt like I knew the couples and their stories by the time I was done. My wife and I are very introverted, shy, and not used to being the center of attention — let alone in front of a camera. After consulting with Kaitlin it was even more clear that she was the perfect photographer for us. Kaitlin listened to our requests, asked us questions to get a better understanding of what sort of coverage we’d like, and checked in multiple times leading up to the wedding day to go over plans. On the day of, Kaitlin was incredible. She set her flash units up perfectly to give a beautiful sense of lighting to our indoor pictures. Kaitlin was quick and professional with our family formals without feeling like she was rushing anyone. We love our newlywed portraits, largely due to how natural it felt to work with her—again this was huge for us as two people who are a bit camera shy. Our reception photos are equally beautiful, she captured meaningful candid moments without feeling like she was standing between us and the moments happening around us. If you’re like my wife and me and aren’t used to being on camera, I would 100% recommend booking a practice session with Kaitlin either for engagement photos or couples’ photos. As a photographer I’m used to being behind the camera and not in front of it. She helped us feel comfortable and it also helped her see how we interact together as a couple. At no point did we feel like Kaitlin was commandeering our schedule to check off boxes on a shot-list. She was seamlessly integrated everything. Genuinely, I cannot recommend Kaitlin enough. Working with her is like having a best friend there take your wedding photos.

Hi, I’m Isaac. In my world, light is everything. The cool ambient hues at dawn, hinting at what the day may bring. Golden sun rays catching particles through a tree as friends gathers to celebrate. A Cotton candy sunset peppered by patio string-lights as a DJ plays my favorite song. We all have timeless memories logged in our minds. For me, they are based in a language of light. As a wedding photographer, this deep connection to special lighting helps me produce dynamic visual stories of romance, personality and beauty.

Awarded Best of Zola
A few things that stood out the most about Isaac were how responsive he was, how he was able to accommodate to our budget, and how he took pictures from angles and views that turned out great on the photos. As a couple with demanding careers, I much appreciated how quickly Isaac was with replying to emails. We had a pretty tight budget, and Isaac was able to offer us a package that landed pretty close to our budget and only had the items that we needed the most (mini engagement photoshoot for the website and wedding day). Our ask for him was to get some candid shots as we feel pretty awkward in front of the camera. I personally think that the wedding day pictures came out more naturally because of the setting being surrounded with friends and families, and Isaac and Sushen did a great job capturing the candid moments beautifully. Isaac even had an idea for me to pose by climbing up a wooden stair ladder for a shot that I honestly wasn't sure how it was going to turn out while doing it, but it ended up turning out beautiful and magazine-like in addition to other ones that he asked us to pose for. Isaac put together a behind the scenes video that also showed the reactions of guests to our photo place cards before we had entered the reception area, and this was lovely in that we got to see our guests' reactions that we weren't able to see.

I love what I do. I found my way to professional photography in a roundabout way, having started my working career as a marine scientist and environmental educator in CA and then on Maui. After years immersed in the ocean and hundreds of hours spent underwater, I realized that I was happiest on days when I could adventure freely with a camera in hand. The drive to learn more and become a better photographer lead me back to school on the east coast, where I ended up finding a new dream career and a home and community that I love.

If we had to do it all over again, we would hire Laura without a doubt. Not just a photographer, Laura became a friend and helped keep us at ease throughout the day, especially during the pre-wedding frenzy. We are so lucky to have found Laura for our engagement in 2019. We were so blown away by the quality of her work and the amazing shots she captured, but also by how much fun we had working with her. Immediately after receiving our engagement photos, we knew Laura had to be the person that photographed our wedding. Thankfully Laura was available on our original wedding date (2020) and on our Covid-postponed wedding date. And we’re so glad she was—we truly couldn’t imagine working with anyone else! Laura was an incredible help throughout our wedding day, making sure we captured the pictures we wanted and adapting on the fly as wedding timelines change. She remained calm, cool, and collected, doing all she could to help us make decisions and keep things on track. Laura was also so helpful leading up to our wedding day. As our day got closer, we emailed and spoke on the phone to map out the timeline of the day, especially the pre-wedding timeline as we wanted to do a first look and most of the pictures with our wedding party and immediate family before the ceremony. She also does an amazing job capturing photos of our dog, including a first look that we did with him that Laura meticulously captured from a variety of angles. She scoped out various places for first looks, décor pictures, and so much more. We cannot say enough good things about Laura. She is an absolute pleasure to work with (wonderful person, easy going, flexible, and so fun), captures amazing photos that became instant keepsakes, and takes so much pride in her work. We were truly speechless when at the end of the night Laura gave us a framed photo from our wedding, earlier that day. Thank you for everything, Laura. There are no words to describe how much we love working with you and we will absolutely be working together again!

Hello there! I'm Andrea, owner of Amative Creative, and every weekend we're so blessed to be able to tell the love stories of so many amazing couples. Like many others in this industry might say, we simply adore weddings. But what makes us a little different is our entire brand is centered around telling love stories specifically curated to reflect your vision and aesthetic. "Amative" means to be prone to love, so as you can see, we want nothing more than to tell your love story! But what makes us truly unique is that we understand every love story looks different. And we personalize every aspect of how we document your wedding day!

We’re creators, travelers, and artists, but foremost: storytellers. Every wedding is a personal project for us, with unique couples, love stories, families and locations. We strive to tell that story through our lens, and create a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork you can enjoy for a lifetime.

Awarded Best of Zola
We just received our photos back from our wedding about a month ago, and we were blown away. We had a feeling the photos would be wonderful because of how professional and attentive our photographer (Athel) was, but of course there is always still that suspense. The team at Indigo and Ivory was wonderful throughout the entire process, always communicative, and it felt like they really cared. Athel even drove a good distance to attend an open house with us at our venue, to get some ideas ahead of time around what settings would be best. He was lovely throughout the whole event, super accommodating of our special requests, and captured all the most important moments. We cannot recommend them enough, the images came out amazing and we are getting tons of compliments! If there is anything I would do differently (and this is not any knock on Indigo and Ivory, this is just general advice for anyone looking to hire any photographer), I probably would have went ahead and added a second photographer for the day (which is something they offer). I wanted to cut costs a bit so we didn't go for it - but of course if you have two you will make sure to get all the different angles you are hoping for and then each person can spend a bit more time with both wedding parties to capture more of those candid moments. I also wish I had made sure to put together a better list of shots that I wanted - once again, these are items that I recommend in general and has nothing to do with Indigo and Ivory. If there are certain things you want your photographer to capture, make sure to write them down and communicate! With all that being said, even if you go with just one photographer and you happen to forget to write down all the specific moments or you just want things to be more free-flow - I 100% recommend Indigo and Ivory for you! They are wonderful and I'm so happy we have these gorgeous images to treasure for years to come.

I’m Felisha, an Award Winning - Published New England Wedding + Portrait photographer with the honor of capturing love stories and cherished moments across New England since 2013. Photography isn’t just my career—it’s the way I connect with people, turning clients into dear friends and fleeting moments into timeless memories. When I’m not behind the lens, you’ll find me soaking up life with my high school sweetheart, our beautiful daughter, and our two chocolate Labradors. My heart beats for real, authentic moments—the kind where love and laughter come effortlessly.

Awarded Best of Zola
Our goal for wedding photos was to be transported back to our wedding day - more of a storytelling style than formal portraits. Felisha totally nailed it, and somehow managed to capture some extra magic in there too. Leading up to the wedding, Felisha was great at helping us feel comfortable with her, and we’re usually camera shy! We felt like we made a new friend! We weren’t planning to do a “first look”, but after how much we loved our engagement photos we decided to add that element to our wedding day as an excuse to get more time with Felisha and have some more Amazing portraits. During the wedding, Felisha and her second shooter were totally professional and unobtrusive - we didn’t notice them doing their thing, and neither did our guests. She was fun to work with, super on top of everything, and the results speak for themselves. We’re already dreaming up other life events that we might want to have professionally photographed, as an excuse to work with her again!

HI, I'm Alli! I am a destination wedding & portrait photographer traveling around the United States since 2016! As your wedding photographer my goal is to capture the memories you're in the moment experiencing so you can be taken right back to the day no mater how much time has passed. Wedding photography is so much more than pretty pictures. These are heirlooms that you will pass down to those who love you, so let's give them honest real images about a love worth remembering JUST AS IT IS!

Awarded Best of Zola
Booking Alli as our photographer was one of the best decisions we made wedding planning!! From creating a fully comprehensive timeline of the day, putting together a collage of Pinterest inspiration photos to know exactly what we wanted, scouting out photo locations at our venue the day before the wedding, making everyone feel comfortable and confident on the day of, and truly just working with efficiency, skill, and professionalism. Alli and Josh truly went above and beyond and we are so grateful for them!! Our friends, family, bridal party and everyone involved agreed that the Mannixco was the best overall photographer that any of us have ever worked with! One of our groomsmen said, “a lot of people with a good camera can take a good photo, but not everyone can be a great photographer like Alli”!! If you want beautiful wedding photos and a photographer who knows what they’re doing but feels like a friend at your wedding, I 100% would recommend the Mannixco to anyone!!

It's been 12 years running this small business as a Boston wedding photographer, a New England wedding photographer, working all around the greater Boston area and traveling to destination weddings as well. It's been a crazy ride so far and I can honestly say I still love what I do! I am so grateful that 250+ wedding couples have trusted me to be a part of their weddings, to document one of the milestone days in their lives and to create beautiful heirloom albums and artwork they can enjoy for a lifetime. Ultimately that's what it's all about, serving my clients and creating an amazing experience.

Randy is the absolute BEST. We were lucky enough to have two beautiful, stunning, distinct sets of wedding photos from him -- one for our mini-wedding in 2020, and one for our bigger reception in 2021. Both times he captured the spirit of the day with an elegance, warmth, emotion, and vision that blew our minds and transports us back to the magic of the day every time we look at them. When you're running around and greeting people on your wedding day, you inevitably miss out on some sweet, funny, and emotional moments, but Randy captured them all so vividly that we don't feel like we missed anything at all. And he gave us a breathtaking new perspective on all the moments we do remember, helping us relive the joy from every angle. Beyond his talents, he was an absolute pleasure to work with, prompt with communication, and always made us feel at ease, comfortable, and cared for. Planning a wedding for 2020 led to a lot of confusion and stress on our end, and Randy was so patient and kind through every step of planning, and even the big day itself. When I had some pre-ceremony tears as a mix of worrying about my dress and pent-up pandemic anxiety, Randy communicated my stress to my husband-to-be before our first look so he could comfort me. I felt touched that Randy did that, going above and beyond his duties to make sure we had the perfect day. His work speaks for itself, managing to simultaneously be truthful to the moments and emotions he captures, while still creative, artistic, and innovative. He puts so much thought and heart into every photo, and the results are truly unbelievable. We are so happy we worked with Randy, and so incredibly thankful for the memories he's given us.

Hi, I’m Julie! I’ve been photographing weddings for about ten years now (holy cow, do I feel old!), starting with photographing friends' weddings and quickly falling in love with the work. While I adore capturing gorgeous portraits of the bride and groom and the quiet (and sometimes chaotic!), beautiful moments during a wedding/elopement/engagement session, those ridiculous candid moments (like when a stranger offers you a fry on the boardwalk during your bridesmaid photos) truly make your day uniquely yours. I'd absolutely describe my style as a mixture of classic, artistic and photojournalism, but my heart lies in capturing candid moments.

Awarded Best of Zola
Julie is super skilled and fun to work with. We wanted someone to capture fun photos (vs the traditional photos) and she fully delivered for both our engagement and wedding photos. She’s super flexible and made us feel so comfortable the whole time given us direction while also capturing many candid shots. She has a knack for capturing the pure joy of the moments. HIGHLY recommend!

Natural, documentary, photojournalistic. Real, raw, candid. We’re not going for any stiff prom poses here. I like to capture the day as it is and to document it as it unfolds. I never want to force anything, but I step in and direct where needed. Being in front of the camera isn’t my favorite thing either. I will be here to guide you and prompt you the whole way, I promise.

Jenna was an absolute dream to work with. From the moment I saw her portfolio I knew I wanted her to document our wedding. I could tell that Jenna knew exactly what to capture in a wedding - the feelings and beauty of the couple’s family, friends and their love. Then after meeting her she instantly felt like a friend - which I didn’t realize how important that would be later on. During the wedding day I think we spent the most time with Jenna, and it was so comforting to have a friend with us the whole time! I trusted her to capture the important moments, and even to give me advice and touch ups, and boy did she deliver! I feel like she read my mind about every little detail. Honestly I can’t say enough good things about Jenna as a person/vendor/photographer. I can’t stop looking at our photos even 6 months later! She just captured our joy and love and turned them into beautiful works of art. We get compliments on our photos by everyone we show them to! Jenna was the best decision we made for the wedding hands down!
