The adobe home itself dates to 1844; built originally as a cattle ranching headquarters, turned sheep ranch, and finally family estate before becoming a museum and historic site in the 1950s. In addition, the site is recognized as a local, state, and national historic landmark. The Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden was created by Kinzuchi Fujii between 1935 – 1940 for Charles and Ellamae Storrier Stearns. Here at the HomeStead we pride ourselves on not being copy and paste, each wedding here is built around the couples individualized style and vision. Due to our elevation (4,750ft), we have Season's! Our Spring is lush and green (last weekend of April thru mid-July). Summer is generally temperate (late July to August), and in Fall, the colors are eye-catching (September thru mid-November). Weddings are not scheduled from the last week in November through mid-April, but we are open for tours and visits throughout the year. The traditional Mexican Palenque was an arena that hosted many large parties and even battles that date back to a Mayan civilization that still stands today in Chiapas, Mexico. El Adobe added the Palenque Room to match this Mexican event space concept and host larger parties of its own. Weddings had long since been taking place at El Adobe but with the new Palenque Room and Chapel location in the adjacent Garden, it gave guests a dedicated space to host a grand wedding celebration with up to 250 guests in attendance. One of the most well-known features of this room is the retractable ceiling that opens up almost 40ft across to expose the skies above San Juan Capistrano. The room and its Garden have evolved over time adding a full bar of its own and spacious restrooms to accommodate the larger guest count. Choose to exchange your vows on the expansive Gazebo Lawn or on the Rose Garden Lawn. Or dance the night away on an optional dance floor that can be set up on the Rose Garden Lawn. Our signature is dining alfresco in our magical Evening Gardens and dancing under the stars and our crystal chandeliers in our exquisite Garden Ballroom. Each wedding includes a complimentary one-night stay in one of our suites and breakfast the following morning for the newlyweds. You also have the option to spend that evening with 8 of your closest friends and family with our most popular After Party. The Whispering Pines Terrace is a short stroll down a forest path and over a creek can accommodate up to 250 people from May to October.
