“Justin was lovely to work with from the start. He was booked for another wedding, but he paired us up with Rob, an associate DJ of his. Both Rob and Justin were so so fun to work with. Rob took the time to text or set up whatever zoom calls we felt we needed. For the actual day, Rob was amazing. We had dinner service, reception, and "after party". Robs killed it with his flow between songs, and was incredibly accommodating and flexible if we had any requests in the moment, and was able to dodge or handle any "questionable" song requests that came his way. I feel like anything else would be a let down.” “What’s your band name? I have to follow them on Instagram.” “Pretty sure that was the best band I’ve seen in 20 years of weddings.” We had our wedding at the Prospect Park Boathouse, and by 20 minutes into the first set the band had amassed a crowd of passers-by who stopped to watch and listen from a nearby bridge and stayed all evening long. Logistically, The Cool Rulers made life easy. We had a number of special requests for our wedding and The Cool Rulers approved them without hesitation and executed them flawlessly. This included learning 3 new songs, one of which was to be sung by 2 of our friends. Charles & Co coordinated with our friends to send them a demo and arrange time for a quick rehearsal, all of which culminated in a “performance” that seemed as if it had been rehearsed for months. The even accommodated a specific request for how they were set up, leaving us an aisle to walk down and filling it in during a short break later in the evening. Our experience working with the company, overall, was positive, but in retrospect, we wish we would have paid the additional cost to upgrade to a VIP DJ. That way, we could have requested our preferred DJ based on their reviews from other couples. A little over 2 weeks prior to our wedding, we were assigned our DJ and had our phone consultation with him. Our DJ was very kind, friendly, and asked us thoughtful questions about us and our wedding day, but we had multiple concerns, one of which being that he had never been to our wedding venue, especially since we were using the DJ services during the ceremony and reception, and also, we would be transitioning to a silent disco at the end of the night (as required by the venue). We could tell that our DJ really cared about our vision and logistics of the wedding day, however, our impression was that he had a reserved personality, and we requested an outgoing and energetic DJ on our preference form. Due to these concerns, I reached out to Instant Request and spoke with one of the staff, who reassured me that they would reach out to our DJ to discuss the layout and logistics of our venue with him. On the wedding day, our DJ was professional and everything went according to plan. We appreciated that he was intentional about asking each person that was giving a speech and bridal party member how to pronounce their name and facilitated the shoe game during our reception. Overall, we thought our DJ was very friendly and skilled, but would have preferred a DJ with more of an outgoing and upbeat personality. We would still hire Instant Request, but would have paid the additional cost to upgrade to a VIP DJ.”
