Marcus Ho Dj

5.0

New York, NY
  • DJ

A 16-year veteran of the NYC club scene. I collaborate closely with couples to create their unique musical experiences for themselves and their guests by delivering a Sophisticated Savoire-Faire of seamlessly blended hits from past decades to what's currently in vogue; citing T-40 Dance, House, IndiePop/Rock, Nu-Disko, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Crossover Reggae and Crossover Latin as some of my favorites.

Awarded Best of Zola
Marcus wasn't just a DJ - he seamlessly went from sound coordinator to emcee to DJ without missing a beat. He was almost constantly in motion and had complete command of anything sound-related. I didn't even realize he was down at the outdoor ceremony with us until I saw him in a photo! His mixing was on point, his music choices were great, and I love that Marcus was able to mix in some of our requests while keeping things moving. I've never seen my son dance, and he danced all. Night. Long. My daughter said it was the "best night of her life." I can only hope that we can think of another reason to have a party so we can hire Marcus again. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thank you, Marcus!

Lucas knows his stuff but also makes a point to know your stuff just as well. He sees the big picture of your wedding day and is beyond generous with his knowledge. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to schedule time with him leading up to the wedding. We had several video calls and he was always calm and confident as we dished him all the stress we could manage. He knew just what to say to ease our tensions with any part of the process and was helpful on all fronts, not just the music. Imagine a young Rick Rubin who’s going to make your day happen through fierce professionalism and calming holistic approach. Day of, Lucas was there early and making sure all the gear was working and problem solving on the scene to make the experience even better than we had talked about. He was able to not only have the music playing through the two large speakers we had planned for outside, but also got it seemlessly hooked up to the speakers throughout the interior space. This was key, because we had to last minute move the whole wedding inside due to rain. It was priceless to see see Lucas problem solving all of that with plenty of time to spare because I had so many other things to worry about with the shifting rain plans. I knew I didn’t have to worry about that whole part of it though, and the quality of the sound throughout the day really smoothed over all of the last minute adjustments and helped make everything feel like it was all part of the plan. It was a perfect day beyond my wildest expectations, and Lucas Walters was a huge part of that.

The Showmance Band

5.0

New York, NY
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $1,500

Classy Jazz with that Old Hollywood charm. JB & the Showmance Band is a Jazz Ensemble covering a wide range of styles. Soulful melodies and fascinatin' rhythms will add magic to your event, party or session. JB & the Showmance Band features Broadway-caliber vocalists, songs that never get old and the top Jazz musicians in NY & LA and beyond. JB & the Showmance Band has combos to cater to the many tastes of Jazz through history. 1920s and Gatsby-themed music, Cafe Paris Jazz Combos, New Orleans & Dixieland Bands, Sinatra & Tony Bennett-styled groups, and Jazz Quintets, Quartets, & Trios. Cheers!

I can’t believe how lucky I got with JB. He really came in asking what I wanted, I told him what I liked and he pulled together the most incredible selection of musicians, playlist of songs and order of service. My husband wanted a few obscure film scores in the ceremony, and JB not only knew them off the top of his head, he arranged them all for strings! I didn’t know what music I wanted for the recessional so I just told him what kind of thing I liked, but that I’d prefer something unknown. He pulled out three amazing options. Literally every wildest dream I had, he delivered. I even played him an old English comic song which I knew my parents would love, and he ROCKED it. I loved working with him, he’s such a professional and music is clearly his life. Showmance were a real highlight of our wedding preparation, the day itself and now of our wedding video and photos. I’m just so delighted that we found him!

The Jon Bates Band

5.0

New York, NY
  • Band or Ensemble

THE JON BATES BAND is an amazing dance-oriented “party band” that always gets folks dancing, feeling good and celebrating the occasion! THE JON BATES BAND is a "destination event band". They have literally performed all over the globe, providing an arsenal of abundantly talented musicians and vocalists, who perform an extensive repertoire of popular music in all styles and genres. They have the professionalism and touring experience required to offer clients the highest quality entertainment options on every level, and they have shared stages with some of the most legendary performers on the planet! - find more info at www.JonBatesBand.com

We saw the Jon Bates Band perform at our friends' wedding in Vermont a number of years ago. My now-husband and I knew (before we were even engaged!) that we wanted these guys to play our wedding, should we get to that point together. Fortunately, they travel all over and were happy to come to Delaware for our 10/5/2019 wedding. Communication was smooth throughout the entire process, and they were completely open to working with us on our song list and catering to what we really love most. Their rendition of our first dance song was spot-on to what we hoped it would be. They played a consistently strong set all night and had everyone - and I mean everyone! - up and dancing. I can honestly say that it could not have gone better, nor could we have enjoyed it more. I highly recommend this group of talented musicians.

Monica Re Martin

5.0

New York, NY
  • Solo performer

Monica Re Martin is a in-demand NYC violinist, violist and strings arranger - and the perfect contractor for your wedding! Monica performs regularly on Broadway, with the NYC Ballet, and with top artists such as Andrea Bocelli and Kygo. She can be seen playing weddings on TV shows like "Summer House" and "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." Monica is available as a solo violinist, both acoustic and electric, and as an instrumental duo, string trio, or string quartet.

I hired Monica and her quartet to play during our wedding cocktail hour! Monica was professional throughout and communicated really well with me from the moment I booked her to the day of the wedding! She offered to arrange songs for me that may not be on her very comprehensive list. We requested pop songs on strings and the vibe was perfect! I would highly recommend booking Monica to contract and play at your wedding!

What music packages are available for weddings in New York City?

Whether you want a string quartet to serenade your ceremony, a 12-piece band, or a DJ to drop beats until dawn, there's a package for every style and budget in New York City. The music package will vary depending on the group, number of performers, hours played, and more, so make sure to review all of the details in advance to ensure the soundtrack to your wedding plays without a hitch.

How do we coordinate our wedding timeline with the band or DJ in New York City?

Communication is key. Your band or DJ should be in sync with your wedding day schedule, hitting the right notes at the right moments. Discuss your timeline with them beforehand, and they'll make sure they play the right notes at exactly the right time - whether it’s your walk down the aisle or your favorite bangers at the end of the night.

Now, that’s a savvy question! In a city that never sleeps, some venues do still have bedtime rules. Fear not, because your wedding planner or venue contacts will be clued in on any noise ordinances. They’ll make sure the party's volume matches the vibe—without the need for noise-canceling headphones.

What equipment do bands and DJs in NYC provide, and what do we need to provide?

Most bands and DJs come loaded with their mixers, mics, and maybe some flashy lights. But it's a good idea to check if your venue is set up for sound or if it's BYOS—bring your own speakers. You might need to rent some equipment if you’re planning a party in a raw or less traditional event space.
