Mercer family’s ancestral estate in Perthshire, Scotland, and modeled after the Compton Wynyates in Warwickshire, England, Aldie Mansion stands on more than 10 acres of carefully tended grounds. This historic estate sits on a secluded the 23 acre East Lake. The mansion can sleep up to 14 guests overnight. Minimum night stay is 2 nights unless the wedding guest list is under 35. We can accommodate up to 50 guests in the mansion for small indoor weddings. The terrace opens directly into the cocktail lounge to enjoy sparkling champagne and their favorite beverages.  Corporate events and receptions on the terrace are surrounded by our sweeping landscape shaded by trees and bordered by leafy plants. Inside, a stage for live entertainment with a large dance floor imbues the elegant ballroom with an energy ready for dynamic wedding and mitzvah entertaining. The stage works equally well for corporate day-long seminars and retreats with video screen and a built-in sound system.

At the heart of the thriving early industrial community known as Rittenhouse Town, the first paper mill in America was built. It all began when, in 1687, papermaker William Rittenhouse followed other Quaker and Mennonite families emigrating to the newly formed neighborhood of Germantown (founded in 1683). William partnered with Philadelphia’s first printer, purchased a 20-acre plot of land along Paper Mill Run (a tributary of the Wissahickon Creek) and, with the help of his son Nicholas, built the first paper mill in British North America that otherwise could only be delivered from England. For the next 40 years, the Rittenhouse family were the only papermakers in America.

The first of three Mercer buildings in Doylestown, Fonthill served as a showplace for Mercer’s famed Moravian tiles. Designed by Mercer, the building is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles. Your guests will be amazed when they enter the tree-lined grounds and visit this amazing castle.
