About this venue

The German Society of Pennsylvania is a historic, three-story brick building with a classic Colonial touch, and is an elegant setting for a Philadelphia wedding. The property offers several venues for every stage of your celebration. The Joseph Horner Memorial Library offers a unique space, with two stories and galleried bookcases. The antique furniture and wood paneling will evoke Belle’s library. The Auditorium, with its distinctly Colonial architecture, is an elegant ceremony venue, but is also perfect for a reception, with plenty of space for dining and dancing. For your cocktail hour, celebrate with your guests in the Ratskeller, a cozy dining room with a tavern atmosphere, or on the spacious and shady Leidy Terrace.

Joseph Horner Memorial Library

A beautiful historic library

The historic Library on the third floor was constructed in 1888 as a reading room. The two-story room is lined with galleried bookcases and a number of busts of famous Germans and German-Americans. There is a large podium at the front of the room and an assortment of antique wooden tables and chairs are available for use. The room is also air-conditioned. For the preservation of our historic collection, foodand beverages are prohibited in the library.

Yes, we do not provide alcohol.

Yes, we have a small parking lot which accommodates 28 vehicles including 2 handicap accessible spaces.

Yes, all our rental spaces are wheelchair accessible. All levels of the building are accessible via elevator and there is a wheelchair accessible restroom.

Your reservation includes 14 hours from start to finish, including time for set-up and clean-up.

50% of the rental fee and a $500 security deposit are due upon signing the rental agreement. If you cancel your event within two weeks of signing, we will refund your entire deposit. Beyond two weeks, we keep the entire deposit. The remaining 50% of the rental fee is due one week before the event. The $500 security deposit will be refunded after the event, barring any damage to the building.

Yes, we require rental clients to provide general liability insurance for the event. If alcohol will be served, then the client must also provide liquor liability insurance.

Use of the desired room(s) for 14 hours, tables, chairs, use of the parking lot, and use of a kitchen.

Our building is located about 12 miles away from Philadelphia International Airport. You can reach our venue via SEPTA Regional Rail, or by private car, ride-share, or taxi.
