Mertens is located in downtown Grand Rapids and occupies the entirety of the original main floor of the original hotel that opened in 1914. We are one half block east of Van Andel Arena, Studio Park, and the Canopy by Hilton Hotel. Valet parking has only limited availability for a fee with prior arrangement with Mertens Validation for either of the large public parking structures (Cherry St garage) on our block is available for pre-purchase and distribution before, during, or at the conclusion of your event street parking is free on Saturdays, Sundays and after 6 PM everyday.

Though unoccupied now, the original ice-house, brew-house, and malting building still stand across the street, a reminder of the dream Philip Zorn brought with him to America.

First a huge rope swing, (that we have since taken down). It was fun watching the kids fly into the water. Then the 110’ water slide kept all the kids smiling as they splashed into the lake. Then in 2020 our daughter was engaged to a great guy. As she began looking for that special place to host her wedding we came to realize that it was right here. We wanted it to be a very special place and we went to work.

The name “Mundano” originates from the Spanish word for “worldly” and Chef Ross Henke took this into account when building the menu. Henke intends to draw from his lauded experience with Latin American cuisine but will lean heavily on New American style, blending a variety of influences and cooking techniques to create flavors striking and memorable.

The Hopewell Barn is located about 1/2 mile south of the historic Hopewell Church. Built in 1872 and purchased by Deb in 2018, the church is listed on National Historic Register for its ties to Gene Stratton Porter. Gene was a famous author in the early 1900’s and the area of ‘Hopewell’ was used as the locale for the settings for several of her books. The name ‘Rustic Barn at Hopewell’ was selected to pay tribute to historic roots of the Hopewell area.

The mansion, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was originally built as the palatial home of Martin and Susie Beiger, the founders of Ball Band. Though Martin never had the privilege of living in the home, Susie did and enjoyed nearly 20 years of lavish living and entertaining. Today we carry on this tradition of entertaining as the opulence of the home provides the perfect setting for any event. Forty Nine South is a wedding venue located in Jackson, Michigan, that serves the surrounding region. This former school serves as an historic, vintage banquet hall where couples can celebrate their special day with friends and family.

Our private event space features a fully-staffed bar with eight taps (including one nitro tap), and groups up to 65 seated with an additional space of 45 seats on the patio. It’s located on the second story of our facility and has two walls of windows, east and south-facing, looking out over the city of Grand Rapids. There is also a two-sided patio that will provide additional space during the warmer months. The room is outfitted with three large flat-screen televisions and a retractable projector screen for PowerPoint or video presentations. There will also be a podium with a microphone for any speeches or group announcements. The Centennial Room can be booked in 3-hour minimum blocks. Built-in 1848, the wedding barn was originally a working farm, used as a hay and milking barn on the Briggs family 500-acre farm. Once the family moved on, however, the property slowly fell into disrepair, including the barn. Luckily, right away Joel had an amazing vision for what could be the ideal spot, he saw the potential like no other for a unique Irish Hills Wedding location and was happy to buy the property in 2017. Sunrise Farms Wedding Venue sits upon a nearly two-century-old family fruit farm in Southwest Michigan.
