I studied applied flute with a vocal minor at the New England Conservatory of Music Boston Massachusetts on a full scholarship where I studied with James Pappoutsaki of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Also studied with Francis Blaisdell, principal flutist with the New York Metropolitan Opera orchestra at the Manhattan School of Music in NY. I began my journey as a flutist at age ten and by fifteen I was studying with world class flutist and conductor Claude Monteux. At 17 I toured with the NY State Symphony. Other fine flutists of the Golden Age with whom I studied include Jim Walker and Julius Baker.

We have been performing as a band since 2003, when Jordan Shapiro formed the band with some close musician friends in Brooklyn, NY. Since then, the band has performed at hundreds and hundreds of concerts, weddings, festivals, parties, kids birthday parties, and various other kinds of family oriented events. We have an extensive songlist of over 300 songs, drawing from all styles of music, including traditional folk/bluegrass, as well as classic rock, pop, jazz and country. The Brooklyn Beats is the inaugural event/wedding band founded by music industry veteran, Jon Shiffman. Jon is best known for his live work as a drummer for Grammy winner Jack Antonoff in the bands Steel Train and Bleachers. He has toured all over the world and his drumming can be heard on various National TV Commercials, and is featured in the 2024 release of Paramount Pictures’ Mean Girls movie. Since even before leaving the touring life in 2015, Jon has been a fixture in the New York private event/wedding band scene and has been a drummer, band leader, talent booker and event producer for the biggest agencies and bands in the area.
