I then spent a decade in New Orleans where I first began my photography journey and moved up to NYC to further pursue it. I'm fortunate enough to have several places to call home and while I work a great deal in the New England & the tri-state area, I'm proud to announce that I've accepted work at an international level this year. Traveling is one of my other great passions, along with music, so it's a perfect fit.

I take an authentic and cinematic approach to wedding photography. I love to watch life unfold and seek to capture the quiet moments of the day; the moments that slip past in an instant but are the ones that you want to remember forever. Hey there! My name is Marian. Part Norwegian and part American, I've been living and shooting in the greater Boston area for the last decade, capturing special moments for couples, restaurants, small businesses, families, and so much more!

I have a long history as a photographer, starting in my twenties with large format view cameras, publishing a book of black and white portraits of Newfoundlanders, studying under Ansel Adams at his Yosemite workshops, and with Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan at the Rhode Island School of Design. Now, my cameras and equipment are all the latest digital models, but I still rely on my experience and a well trained eye for capturing the optimal moment.

We were married within 3 months of our first date. “When you know, you know”, they say, and when we knew we wed. Something we bonded over early on was our love for traveling with cameras. What we continue to bond over: visiting as many countries as possible, making and consuming craft beer, sending real mail, reading the newspaper, meeting new people, and training/walking/cuddling our maniacal dog, Gatsby. After our San Diego courthouse-by-the-sea elopement, we settled in Brooklyn and turned our passion for photography into a business. Photography allows us to capture life's day-to-day moments, major milestones, and everything in between.

Nostalgia drove me into photography at an early age - and lead me into my studies of photojournalism. We all innately know when we're at a critical juncture in our lives. For me, being able to authentically capture, to preserve those moments in a photograph is such a privilege. I know how much it means to me to be able to look back and say 'this is how things actually happened.' There is beauty in those truths. The kind of folks I work with share that appreciation.

Just like you, I have felt awkward in front of the camera. I’ve had photos taken of me that I didn’t like. When you go on a session with me, I will not only make you feel comfortable, but I will make sure you look good! I will give you prompts to keep you moving and laughing. I love what I do. I found my way to professional photography in a roundabout way, having started my working career as a marine scientist and environmental educator in CA and then on Maui. After years immersed in the ocean and hundreds of hours spent underwater, I realized that I was happiest on days when I could adventure freely with a camera in hand. The drive to learn more and become a better photographer lead me back to school on the east coast, where I ended up finding a new dream career and a home and community that I love.
