Our suggested dress code is "Festive Cocktail," but we'll be happy to see you in whatever you choose to wear! Accessorizing with sparkles, silver, gold, and anything New Year's Eve themed is encouraged, and we'll have NYE accessories at the reception to share. If you don't already have clothes that fit this dress code, don't feel obligated to find something new just for us - we'd love to celebrate with you in any outfit!
We met in high school, during our first day of classes at Loomis Chaffee. We were in the same French class together, both 14 years old, both day-students at a boarding high school in northern CT, and both very excited for this next chapter in our lives. John, a short, lanky, freckled boy with naturally wild curly hair and braces, and Alex, with gaps in her smile from recently-lost baby teeth and a brand new pixie cut that she still wasn't quite sure about. We stumbled through Freshman year and became fast friends, supporting each other through rejections from sports teams, school plays, and advanced level classes. Through the 4 years, as we grew into ourselves and began to find our confidence, there were flirtatious moments, secret glances, and even a few stolen kisses, but we were far from "boyfriend and girlfriend." When John got into Fordham and Alex got into Elon, we celebrated the bittersweet realization that we were both pursuing our dreams, but may not stay in touch with one another. We had 4 years of silence, besides the occasional brief catch-up text, where we were able to become the people we needed for each other and begin to build the foundations for the rest of our lives, academically and professionally. A few months after college graduation, Alex received a letter in the mail from Loomis Chaffee to her new address in Maine, inviting her to register for the 5 year high school reunion coming up that summer. After 5 years, and nearly no contact, the first name to pop into Alex's head was John Furlong. "Have you seen this?" She texted him along with a photo of the invitation. "Wow... It's been a while," responded John, without missing a beat. And that was the beginning of our happy ending. We met up on December 31st, 2018 for a classic NYC New Year's Eve experience and knew almost immediately that this was going to be more than just a date. Now, we are thrilled to be starting our next big chapter again on New Year's Eve. We can't wait to have all of our friends, family, and loved ones in New York celebrating with us on December 31st, 2023!
