Cuarteto Guataca

Bassist and bandleader Josh Levine got his start in the professional music business busking in SoHo with The Flying Neutrinos in ’93, so when NYC shut down in Spring of 2020, he capitalized on his experience as a street performer and began to play regularly in the parks of NYC with percussionist and sonero, Jainardo Batista, renowned flutist Itai Kriss making his debut on Cuban trés guitar, and María Raquel on vocals and minor percussion. Before long, the quartet had generated some buzz, several venues hired them to play outdoors and pianist Gabriel Chakarji and Grammy winning flutist and vocalist Jeremy Bosch became staples of the group.

We're a high energy band without the high decibel levels. While we specialize in salsa and son Cubano, we can play authentically in a variety of genres, from duo to sextet, with or without amplification. We're known for our vocal harmonies and strong lead vocals, high caliber musicianship and fun, inclusive energy. We're very active in the NYC area so it's easy to hear us live in person almost any day of the week. Currently we play regularly at Cuba Restaurant and Rum Bar, Sahadi's Industry City, Aura Cocina, 1803NYC, The Roxy Hotel in Tribeca, Wild Birds, Guevara's and NoHu Rooftop in NJ.
