Opening Brooklyn Girl Bakery was the culmination of years working as a pastry chef and cake decorator in the Philly suburbs. As someone who loved all things wedding related, I decided to venture out on my own so I could focus all my energy making beautiful and delcious cakes.

I am a self-taught macaron baker since fall 2018. When I was introduced to macarons and saw how versatile, pretty and flavorful macarons could be, I decided to perfect the technique so I could provide them at the weddings, showers and birthdays for all my friends. As my experience grew I started receiving requests from people all over Pittsburgh to add a unique twist to their sweetest moments, so much so that in September of 2021, I quit my corporate job to bake full-time! I absolutely love being able to enhance a wedding, baby shower or bridesmaid proposal with some rare, scrumptious treats that everyone is delighted to see and taste.

Ever since I was 7 years old, I told everyone that when I grew up I was going to be a chef. I grew up with that idea and never considered a back up plan. I pursued that dream and attended culinary school. Funnily enough, I never had much interest in baking. I wanted to be the chef and owner of a restaurant one day. After graduating and working in restaurants, I was crushed to see that a handful of places weren't sending out fresh, non frozen foods. So, I would go home and start baking, just for fun. It quickly turned into an obsession. Thanks to my family for the push, I am now here. I hope to work with you + create something special!

Hello! My name is Ava. I’m a wife, mother to five and a cake and cookie artist. My grandma was a custom cake artist in NY for many years before she passed in 2018 so I grew up watching her create works of art. I would like to say that baking and creating runs in my blood and is not only a hobby of mines, but a true passion.

I am a national competitor with many awards for cake design as well as cake flavors, cupcake design, and cookie design. The “sweets” business is the only business I’ve ever known. I’ve been decorating cakes professionally for over 15 years! I come from a family who loves dessert. So when considering my career ambitions, it came naturally that I wanted to pursue my love for serving people with personalized sweets. I believe that flavor is just as important as appearance. I enjoy baking, so when my daughter needed to raise funds for her missions trip we started "baking for a cause." Our baking endeavor to raise support for my daughter's missions trip has blossomed into my passion and a full bakery business! For me, it is more about creating a new design or personalizing a product. It's about doing something for someone else! Clay’s Bakery opened its doors on October 1, 1990 by Bill and Denise Bones, alongside Denise’s mother Barbara Clark, who retired to Florida in 1997. To this day, the bakery is still owned and operated by the Bones family. The bakery was named in honor of Denise’s father Clayton Earl Clark, III who passed away the year before opening the shop. He was an Sergeant for the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, many of his brothers in blue continue to show their support for Denise and her family by visiting the bakery often.

We offer several coffee shop items, breakfast and lunch to-go, bakery treats, and so much more!! We make EVERYTHING fresh and in-house with two experienced chefs, one with a degree in pastry and the other in culinary. Hire us for your next event!

Tera says that she has always loved to bake! However, it wasn't until 2015 that she discovered her true passion for baking after crafting a cake for a family member’s birthday, which everyone loved! At that moment, she decided that she would pursue her passion for cake decorating. ​ She started by taking online classes and her skills grew as quickly as her love for the craft. She went from baking for co-workers and family birthdays to eventually taking the leap into baking as a career in 2016. On a personal note, when Tera is not baking or teaching decorating classes, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their 3 children.
