In 1874, Father Theodore Butler purchased a home and a lot in Augusta, Georgia, for $10,000.00 to construct a building to be used as a church for the Catholic population and a school for children of all denominations. A simple Victorian structure served as a temporary facility for the church until work could begin on a larger, more significant building for the group. The first bricks were laid for Sacred Heart Church in 1897 and the church opened with the first service on December 2, 1900. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building features towering twin spires, graceful arches, fifteen distinctive styles of brickwork, ninety-four stained glass windows, a barreled vaulted ceiling, and intricately carved Italian marble altars. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, the last mass was held in Sacred Heart on July 3, 1971.

Just imagine your event here at Southwind Acres. Our barn has a true rustic/chic style that can accommodate 200 seated guests and can be customized for the event of your dreams. You have the option of an outdoors ceremony where you and your guest will get pleasure in the lush flowing lawn that is surrounded by many trees and nature. You may also choose an indoor ceremony in our Mini Barn style chapel adorned with crystal chandeliers. Bent Creek Farm is located on 52 acres of rolling pastures and wooded trails in Upstate SC. Brides have their choice of five unique sites for their ceremony including our beautiful barn and several rustic romantic outdoor private locations. Our beautiful 1800 square feet climate-controlled barn has many unique features, walking trails with trees, creeks, wildlife, birds and various plants and flowers along the edge. Fully equipped catering kitchen, Bridal Suite, Grooms Room featuring a Pool Table. Seating for 150 to 200 guests, indoor/outdoor venue. Included: • climate-controlled Barn Venue with stained glass • Use of the Bella Terrace; the Mooi outdoor Amphitheater; the romantic Waterwheel venue /rolling pasture. • Eleven 60-inch round tables and tablecloths in White, Black and Soft Gray. • 100 chairs included (indoor)• Use of the Game area that includes a nine-hole Disk Golf; Bocce Ball Court; Horseshoe Pit; 5’ Jenga; Corn hole• Fire Pit /Garden swing Paved Parking

The event space includes a 6,000-square-foot Reception Hall, a 3,000-square-foot Ceremony Space with Grooms Quarters attached, and an 800-square-foot building dedicated as a Bridal Suite. It has two beautifully landscaped garden spaces that can be used for cocktail hour or ceremony spaces. The entire facility has a brick and rod iron privacy fence surrounding the property. The venue includes three historic buildings connected by beautiful cobblestone walkways, lush landscape, landscape lighting as well as cafe lights. The walk from each unique building is just as beautiful as the buildings themselves.

The house, that is now the face of Southern Oaks, was built in 1820. Still with its original wooding and design, this house is what makes our venue stand out from others. It includes a Bridal Suite, Groom's Room, a Den Area for parents and grandparents to relax, and a recently added "Ladies Loft" just for hair and makeup. The home is filled with large, elegant chandeliers and stunning furniture. The property has 3 historic barns, a chapel, 2 patio decks, and the largest reception area in Lexington County. The outdoor area is full of pecan and oak trees, along with a breathtaking lush landscape.
