Grand Tradition Estate & Gardens is a private Estate that has been hosting weddings for 40 years! Hidden in north San Diego, Grand Tradition has two amazing venues to choose from including 7 waterfalls and endless lush gardens.

The wedding was great and as a wedding planner, I enjoyed working with this team. From the start, they care for the client with respect and class. Especially loved working with Scott. He has the best personality and is so fun! We did have a staff change which somewhat caused a communication issue, but they quickly bounced back and made sure everything was correct and updated. As a wedding planner, I would certainly do another wedding here! The staff, food and facility are top notch!

The Prado At Balboa Park

5.0

San Diego, CA
  • Up to 300 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Indoor & outdoor

The Prado at Balboa Park is a National Historic Landmark which was originally built for the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition. This two year festival was held in Balboa Park to promote San Diego and to celebrate the 1914 opening of the Panama Canal.

We had our wedding anniversary at the Prado and it was the dream celebration I wished I'd had for our wedding! FIrst off, the options we were offered for food choices was over the top. Everyone was so accomodating helping us with things. The day of, I felt like a Queen! I never lifted a finger- the staff always made sure I had a drink in my hand, and each time I got up from my chair, I came back to a seat with fresh a fresh napkin. The wait staff is so professional- they are there but not in your face. Everything we needed or wanted was handled for us. We have an event company, so have many contacts in the industry, and we chose to have our big party at the Prado because we knew we would be taken care of. We were not let down!

Japanese Friendship Garden

5.0

San Diego, CA
  • Up to 248 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $2,000

From intimate wedding ceremonies to elegant receptions, the Japanese Friendship Garden is the perfect setting for any celebration! Tucked away in the heart of San Diego's historic Balboa Park, the Japanese Friendship Garden is a truly beautiful venue. The lush trees and tall bamboo provide a uniquely intimate and unforgettable venue for weddings. The Japanese Friendship garden features winding pathways and authentic Japanese garden features, including koi ponds, waterfalls, bonsai, cherry trees and wisteria arbors.

We hosted our daughter’s wedding last weekend. The venue is literally the perfect setting for a wedding and we received exuberant praise all evening for how beautifully magical everything was. I believe that our event was their largest to date (240), which meant that we had to split the ceremony and reception between the lower and upper gardens. Initially, we were concerned about having to make our guests trek from bottom to the top gardens (or take the provided shuttle), but this provided the guests with a charming walk through the gardens to gain an added element of beauty to the night. Marina, the event lead, was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. Having a different starting location from the ending can be tricky (especially with a lesser know entry way), but the detailed instructions and maps that Marina provided proved to be extremely helpful in guiding everyone.

Encore Event Center

4.0

San Diego, CA
  • Up to 400 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $3,500

Encore Event Center is the historic XETV6 studios which was renovated in 2018 with to incorporate the nostalgic mission style past along with modern amenities. Each hall is a unique "set" that comes fully decorated but also can be modified to express your vision. Encore is a full service facility with in house award winning catering, beverage service, DJ's, rental options as well as beautiful indoor and outdoor settings for both ceremonies and receptions.

Had my 60 person wedding here the other day, doing my best to write a thorough review. TL;DR: A great all-inclusive venue at an affordable price, if you aren't too hung up on the details. Small snags: We had requested our audio guestbook be put out at the cocktail hour, and we had brought some additional desserts of our own--both things were forgotten about until I pulled someone aside and reminded them. The requested gluten-free meal was given to the appropriate guest, then taken away(?), but given back again once we found our coordinator and let her know. The DJ (DJ BodyRawk) was ok; he took requests and shook the tip jar to play them, though I had already tipped him as part of the overall bill. I thought parking would be available, but we had to park in the available lot across the street, which we weren't told ahead of time. The venue can be a little hard to get a hold of; their automatic answering service is a bit weird and they don't leave messages when they call you back, but our coordinator Tanya was pretty good about calling/texting back. Keep in mind the bridal suite is very small (this was perfect for me). There was another event going on but it didn't affect my wedding in the slightest--people were very sweet and offered me congrats. The rehearsal was apparently self-guided; this was never communicated to us. These weren't huge issues for me, but if you're the type to NEED a totally perfect dream wedding, they are things to keep in mind. The Highlights: My guests LOVED the gorgeous fountain courtyard as well as the decor of the room, especially the light-up willow tree. 99% of our own decor (arch, pictures, Mr/Mrs signs, centerpieces, accent flower petals, party favors) were laid out as requested and looked lovely. As I said the food was excellent, they worked with me on gluten-free and vegan options at no extra charge (for under 5 people), the bartender truly had the patience of a saint and made fast, delicious drinks, and the photobooth from the venue was a HUGE hit and we have some really fun pictures. It was AWESOME having an all-inclusive venue, I had very little to worry or think about; they also have decor accents, lights, arches, and centerpieces available to rent if you'd like. And of course, the price was outstandingly affordable. The incredible price was the biggest draw for us and honestly it was worth it, I'd do it again. Overall, I'd recommend Encore for anyone who wants a great, fun wedding!

Flora

5.0

San Diego, CA
  • Up to 150 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor

An event at Flora presents itself polished and turnkey with features like wainscot walls, custom doors, and bespoke furnishings. Visualize lofted ceilings, a 70-foot long living wall, two 12-foot custom skylights, hanging garden chandeliers, and over 130 plants. The amenities give the venue a life of its own with a state of the art sound system, wooden house tables, chairs, movable partitions, and built-in color LED lighting. To top it off, Flora blends an entirely renovated interior with original, exposed wood beams from its initial construction in 1922 as a tribute to our past. We invite you to walk the botanically-lined path of Flora’s entrance and into a space unlike that of any San Diego event venue before it - we have made a statement; make yours at Flora.

I have so many positive things to say not only about Flora, but also about the wonderful people who work there, that I just don't know where to start. My now fiancé and I moved to San Diego a little over two years ago and while exploring our new neighborhood we walked past this somewhat nondescript building with interesting metal gates and lettering in greenery, but we had no clue what the building was for. Being curious, I immediately went home and did some research and what I found can only be described as a hidden gem. Inside the building is a room full of beautiful greenery, a live tree, and the best bathroom wallpaper I've ever seen. Safe to say I was obsessed; however, I was not engaged yet so I tried to play it cool. Fast forward a few months and a ring later, we went to see Flora in person and it was everything I imagined and more (custom lighting options I didn't even know I needed until I saw them). It was the only venue we toured and we haven't looked back. Beyond the beautiful space are all the beautiful people who are part of the Flora team. Everyone we have met with at Flora has been kind, encouraging, and excited to be a part of our big day. We have been fortunate enough to work with them even more closely than originally planned. Part of the Flora venue contract requires each couple to have a day of coordinator which was fine with us (we need all the help we can get). While couples have the option of bringing in an outside coordinator, Flora does offer full and month of coordination services through the venue. Considering my fiancé and I both work in industries that leave us incredibly busy for large chunks of the year, I was immediately interested in a full service coordinator and who better to do it than someone already familiar with our chosen venue. My fiancé was not as easily convinced and was not sure we would get huge value out of paying for full service coordination versus a day of coordinator. However, he was eventually convinced and we chose to do the full service coordination through Flora. Enter Elena who has been nothing short of a saving grace. Not only is she incredibly sweet, but she has worked so hard answering all the questions we have had, updating floor plans for us, creating short lists of vendors to choose from, working with vendors to create quotes that matched our vision at different price points, and so many other things behind the scenes I'm sure I can't even begin to articulate. Working with Elena has even convinced my dubious fiancé full service coordination is so worth it! While I don't think there is another space in San Diego that can check as many boxes as Flora can, there is one item I do want to note about the space to couples who are planning weddings with a larger guest count. In the initial stages of our planning we had anticipated inviting around 150 guests for both the ceremony and reception. While Flora can definitely comfortably accommodate that many guests, in the process of discussing our floor plan options with Elena we realized in order to best utilize some of the wonderful and unique features in Flora's space, notably the moving partitions, a guest count closer to 130 would be a better fit. To us it is worth having a few less guests in order to use some of the features that made us fall in love with the venue! This turned into a much longer narrative than intended, but I hope this helps someone in the planning process. If you choose Flora I'm sure you won't regret it.

Julep was the perfect sized wedding venue for our guest of 150. We loved that the design of the space was so clean and spacious, it was the perfect blank canvas for our how we wanted to make the space., while still having a character of its own. We also loved that we could hold the ceremony and reception in the same area. We had a number of elderlies in both sides of our families so it was really important to us that they didn't need to be moved from one location to another, and make sure that the space was accessible to them. All the amenities in the venue was great as well! They had plenty of bathroom stalls that were clean and spacious. Their Bridal Room was so cute and comfortable. The patio space was perfect for cocktail hour. Heather and Kirsten were our main point of contacts and they were both so lovely to work with. We really appreciated how organized they were and always being so quick to answer any questions, big or small. They were both so personable and made no questions feel like dumb questions. We really appreciated how organized they were, and how detailed they were in laying out details of our contracts and were so flexible with making any changes. We truly can't recommend Julep enough as a wedding venue.
