“We decided on a DJ instead of a band for a few practical reasons. It's cheaper, there's more variety in what he/she can play and therefore can appeal to a broader audience, and most importantly for us, a DJ takes up less space than a band. We thought about foregoing a professional altogether and just doing the iPod thing, but I was afraid that it would stress me out. For anyone else who has done the DJ search, there is LOT of cheese out there! I received a packet from this one guy with all kinds of crazy rainbow colors and smiley faces and frankly, his voice on the phone scared me. We wanted a low-key DJ, not a show-boat. Tom was perfect. He totally delivered! He wore a tux and looked great. Call me shallow but that's important - the DJ is in the background of quite a few of the photos. Bassist and bandleader Josh Levine got his start in the professional music business busking in SoHo with The Flying Neutrinos in ’93, so when NYC shut down in Spring of 2020, he capitalized on his experience as a street performer and began to play regularly in the parks of NYC with percussionist and sonero, Jainardo Batista, renowned flutist Itai Kriss making his debut on Cuban trés guitar, and María Raquel on vocals and minor percussion. Before long, the quartet had generated some buzz, several venues hired them to play outdoors and pianist Gabriel Chakarji and Grammy winning flutist and vocalist Jeremy Bosch became staples of the group.
