The Local Restaurant & Catering

5.0

  • Caterer
  • Serves Free Union, VA

The Local is a full-service catering company that specializes in weddings, social gatherings & corporate events. Grand or intimate, focused on tradition or leaning toward trendy, your vision along with our capable guidance will reflect your personal style. Our staff is committed to details, offering unique options, bringing creativity and passion to the planning process.

It's been weeks since our wedding, and we're still getting an insane amount of compliments and questions on our wedding dinner! One of my bridesmaids even asked if I could get the recipe for The Local's truffle mushroom pasta (the resounding favorite from all of our guests, and for good reason). The other favorite (especially from my husband) was their apple crisp. It's common knowledge that the bride and groom don't get a ton of time to eat on the wedding day. We'd built out a private dinner right after cocktail hour but before sunset photos, and we got to eat a little bit of everything. Let me tell you -- I'm still thinking about the scalloped potatoes I had. I could have had an entire plate of those and still have been happy. We also had the chicken and green beans, and it's an understatement to say everything was incredible. Every dish was high quality, remained hot through the buffet, and were filling but didn't make you feel too heavy/sleepy to dance all night afterwards. Not only was the food amazing, but working with Helen and her team through our engagement was so easy. The Local is very thorough and sends over clear paperwork, including a contract with all items and payments broken down, and they were really responsive with any questions we had along the way. They even had a specific food option for those with allergies or dietary restrictions. Their team also helped set up and take down everything, and really made our dreams come true with the place settings and floor plan. It was absolutely beautiful. Overall, we could not recommend them more, and are hoping we get to attend a wedding where they're the vendor so we can eat more of their food! Thank goodness they're also a restaurant; we'll definitely be going there to relive our wedding dinner yet again :)

We are Amy & Jackson Smith, a husband and wife team, who met through photography. We fell in love and got married in our own backyard right here in Charlottesville. We feel so fortunate to meet such genuine people and have the opportunity to tell their stories. Since 2014 we have shot over 150 weddings at more than 60 venues. We are based in Charlottesville, Virginia and love photographing weddings here as well as Richmond, Washington DC, and beyond.

My wife and I are beyond thrilled with the amazing photos Amy and Jackson from Smiths Photography took at our wedding in Florida! They did such an incredible job capturing all the special moments, and somehow they managed to capture the true personalities of each of our guests, too. Their talent is truly unmatched. The pictures are not just beautiful; they perfectly reflect the emotions and vibe of the day. Every shot is a work of art, and the quality is outstanding—vibrant colors and sharp details make each photo a real standout. Amy and Jackson were so professional yet so warm and friendly. They made sure to understand exactly what we wanted and then went above and beyond to deliver. They blended into the background while making everyone feel at ease, which really helped make the day even more special. We received our photos quickly and couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. We are incredibly grateful they were our photographers. If you’re looking for someone who captures not just the moments but the essence of your event, Smiths Photography is the way to go. Highly recommend them!

Perfect location for weddings near Charlottesville, Virginia.

My son and his wife chose The Pavilion on Lakeland Farm for their 60 person wedding. Janet was helpful from beginning to end with advice on timelines and vendors. The number of extras offered for this venue was impressive. She acted as the Day-Of coordinator, provided the tables and linens and parking attendants. There was room for the bridal party and groomsmen to get ready without seeing each other. I would call it the perfect venue.

Brittany Fan Art and Photography

5.0

  • Photographer
  • Classic style
  • Serves Free Union, VA

Hi! I'm Brittany, and I'm a photographer, painter, graphic designer in Charlottesville, Virginia. My passion in life is creating art that elevates story and human connection, and weddings are a unique crossroads in life where those two things unfold in powerful ways. Although I am primarily a photographer in the wedding industry, capturing the moments big and small, I also do floral design, invitation design, and keepsake paintings for couples, and therefore have a unique understanding of and appreciation for all that goes making a wedding special and keeping those memories preserved for many years to come.

Awarded Best of Zola
Brittany Fan is a true renaissance woman. I have admired her eye for beauty and ability to capture it through art and photography since I first met her at the University of Virginia. I still can't believe I had the privilege of having her photograph my wedding! Brittany thrives under pressure and that was certainly evident in how she handled the jam-packed shot list and day of schedule I gave her. It was a breath of fresh air to experience her calm demeanor in the midst of the craziness of wedding planning. It is so true that photography is an investment and it is a worthy one. I am thrilled with how our photos turned out and know my family will treasure them for generations. I would highly recommend Brittany Fan Art and Photography to anyone looking to capture images of their loved ones or a special event; you will not be disappointed!

I could not have asked for a better wedding photographer. My husband is in the military so we never got a chance to meet John or do an engagement shoot before the wedding day—it didn’t matter. John was so easy to be around, both my husband and I immediately felt like he was one of the group. (So did all of our wedding party) My husband, who normally doesn’t exactly enjoy picture taking, even admitted he had a ton of fun taking pictures because John made it such a blast. It felt so natural and easy. The pictures were absolutely beautiful and felt like he really captured the essence of the day. I’m so grateful we had a friend recommend him and I would 1000% recommend him to anyone.

I'm a full-time freelance photographer, and have been photographing weddings since 2008. Risking understatement, I love being a photographer. When it comes to weddings, I photograph them in my favorite style -- journalistic. Nothing makes me happier than finding cool, off-the-wall moments at your wedding that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Well, unless those moments happen to be in supreme sunset light. I try to be as hands-off as I can, while still providing direction when needed. Your wedding won't be a Hollywood production photo-shoot with me, it'll be a party with your family and friends that you will be able to enjoy to the fullest!

Amanda Maglione opened her wedding photography business in Charlottesville, Virginia, after a ten-year career in NYC as a photojournalist, celebrity photographer, and photo editor. She brings this background to her wedding photography, and is known for her photojournalistic/documentary style. "Well balanced, highly skilled photographer. Now when you combine that knowledge and experience with her affable nature and charm you can't go wrong. She is not only super talented but also down to earth, sweet, intelligent and a truly genuine person. When you meet her you immediately feel at ease. I was blessed to have her shoot my wedding."

Amanda was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! I can't say enough great things about Amanda. She is incredibly talented and the consummate professional. We went a non-traditional route for our wedding, deciding to get married in the morning off the blue ridge parkway, and then hike up to the top of humpback rocks with our guests to celebrate our marriage at the top of a mountain. That meant having Amanda get up early to capture the ceremony and then do the hike with us (haha!). She was incredible, and brought along her photographer friend to help during the morning to get all the action. Later that evening, she met back up with us when we cleaned up for some portraits with family, and some of our absolute favorite couple photos we've ever taken on the downtown mall. I don't feel like words do justice -- the photos of our memories say everything I couldn't ever possibly put into words. I should also mention that thanks to her phenomenal photos, we were one of the couples selected for a Cville wedding magazine issue! Amanda is one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day. We will always be thankful for her and think of her often when we pass our beautiful canvas photos of that day hanging around our house. :)

If you are looking for a wedding photographer (or portrait photographer) in the Charlottesville area, look no further. We got married at King Family Vineyards this summer and that's where I first saw some of Aaron's photos. I was just blown away. He has this way capturing the fun little moments, and also creating more serious shots that are just epic (with and without a drone)! He's one of a kind and super fun to work with. We had him and his wife Lisa shooting at our wedding, and I have such great memories goofing off with the two of them out in the vineyards getting some beautiful shots. He has been doing this for a long time and he knows every angle, every trick in the book. He also knows and works well with all of the Charlottesville-area wedding vendors. The one thing you do not want to skimp on with your wedding is the photos, because that's what you'll have to look back on forever. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for understanding people and making beautiful images. Earning dual degrees in fine art photography and anthropology was a natural extension of this passion — a path that led me to launch Cramer Photo in 2005. I focus my photography on the art of documentation. I love to capture the in-between moments, when a bit of your inner self is revealed. Your images will be a perfectly honest reflection of you, the people you love, and the moment you’re in. I am a visual storyteller, documenting the personal and professional stories of my clients. Liliharp Flowers is a floral design studio located on a micro flower farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. The offerings are seasonal, sustainable, and inspired by the flower fields. Our foam free designs mimic the way flowers appear in nature: free flowing, whimsical, and unique. For those looking for florals to elevate smaller weddings, elopements, dinner parties, and showers, our a la carte offerings found within our online shop is an easy way to choose pieces that will best suit your needs. The studio also accepts commissions for a limited number of custom wedding designs each year, starting at an investment of $6000.

I am so happy to have (and never once doubted the decision) trusting in Lindsey!! I was lucky enough to have found Liliharp via CakeBloom's Elopement package, which includes a few key floral pieces that I added onto (and continued to add to leading up to the wedding; the latest being the week before). I had zero ideas/opinions and she did all the thinking and hard work for me. When we spoke on the phone, I just told her the general palette I had in mind and. She considers the venue, season, and overall atmosphere and... the results were better than I'd imagined! Every bride should be so lucky to have Lindsey on their team for their most important and special day!!

Create the wedding of your dreams -- amid the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Get married on The Lawn -- with views of the vineyard. The Barn offers space for up to 150 guests to dine, dance, and celebrate your union. Painted white interior, exposed wooden beams, and hanging chandeliers create a bright, elegant atmosphere that lasts throughout the evening, complete with a huge dance floor. And The Loft and The Lodge provide comfortable and elegant 'getting ready' spaces for both partners. Special note: Tables, chairs, bar, wine barrel bars, and wedding arbor are all included. Our Tasting Room, SIP, and adjacent open-air Pavilion, provides a perfect Rehearsal or Welcome Dinner location for up to 100 guests. Interested in a more intimate setting? Ask about The Library -- perfect for Showers, Farewell Brunches, etc., up to 45 guests.

My husband and I loved our experience with VRV as our wedding venue. From the jump, we loved meeting with Barbara. The day we went venue shopping, we had a number of experiences in the area where we just felt like a number and they truly didn't care about us or getting our business. Barbara was genuinely interested in getting to know us as a couple and we felt cared for and valued. In an area where the wedding industry can be a machine, we felt like people - and more than that, family. The wedding itself was intimate, accommodating, scenic, and everything we would have wanted. Barbara was amazing to work with, as we figured she would be from our amazing first meeting. We really appreciate her for being flexible and accommodating as plans came together and changed leading up to the wedding. In an industry of potentially flakey vendors, VRV/Barbara were extremely helpful in being the glue to hold everything together and keep things moving forward. I also want to give a big shout out to Ben who was the lead organizer for the venue on the wedding day and he was terrific; our grandmas, who needed to be escorted around via golf cart at times, seemed to have the best time and had a constant smile on their face in Ben's company. I also must mention the pure beauty of the venue. My husband and I got married in late October and the trees could not have been more beautiful. The site of the ceremony was stunninh with the mountain backdrop and the barn had a magical feel in the Fall as it turned from day to night. Also the opportunity for the couple to go up to the top of the mountain for pictures was every bit as awesome as I thought it would be. Overall, if I could give the venue 10 stars here, I would. Could not recommend enough

Hello! We’re Hunter & Sarah — high school sweethearts, ocean enthusiasts and professional wedding & portrait photographers. We’ve been married for more than two years, but have been together since the 11th grade. The only thing more important to us than making new friends and our weekly date night is our faith! Since picking up our first camera almost a decade ago, we’ve had a gift for making others feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. We deliver incredible images, but more importantly we give our clients an incredible experience — every step of the way.

I used Hunter & Sarah for a family photoshoot for my parents anniversary. Most of us struggle in front of the camera but these two made us laugh and thoroughly enjoy the experience. The pictures are amazing and now displayed all throughout my parents home! I highly recommend this sweet couple.

Welcome to our rustic, tranquil, farm estate nestled in beautiful Orange County, VA. Our classic farmhouse with portions dating back to 1810, will immediately welcome you home. We adore our farm and can’t wait to share it with you!

Absoluetly LOVED this venue! The moment I first stepped on the property, I fell in love and *knew* this was the place my husband and I were going to get married. Angela and her staff set everything up just the way I wanted it, and it went so smoothly! There are *so* many different options of locations to have the ceremony. Due Sorelle provides plenty of tables and chairs, and the staff will set them up for you - one less thing for you to have to worry about on your big day! I also loved that we had access to the barn the night before the wedding so I could set up the reception and not have to worry about finding someone to do that the morning of. Angela was a bit confusing to communicate with at times? Just some random things here and there - asking for details, scheduling things, and some either miscommunication or lack thereof. She was super sweet! I had just wished the communication process were a little smoother. Overall I loved Due Sorelle and would absolutely recommend it to anyone!

Unlike other farm-winery experiences, Eastwood Farm and Winery is located in Charlottesville, Virginia itself. You don't have to drive out to the country to experience the country here! We would love to show you around our 77 acres of rolling hills, mountain views, raspberry vines and enchanted forests. Set back from the road, our four unique event spaces are private and secluded - just waiting for you to create your special event. Our Winery Cottage is also the perfect space for the wedding party to relax and pamper themselves while getting ready for the ceremony (or for the entire weekend). With our partners, we can provide everything you need, from a beautiful tent provided by Skyline Tent Company, to power and lights, tables and chairs, and world class cuisine served in an elegant yet natural setting.

We had an absolutely incredible wedding at Eastwood in September of 2024. The views are stunning, the tent is so special and you cannot beat the location. Highly, highly recommend. The team at Eastwood is spectacular! Emma's partnership and guidance throughout the process was unparalleled. She took us up to the tent/terrace several times (more times than she needed to) as we figured out our vision for the wedding. Having the cottage on location was incredibly helpful. We were not only able to get organized in the days leading up, but also had a space for people to gather / our flower girls were able to sneak down and go down to bed a bit early too. We are so thrilled that we had our wedding at Eastwood!

Guildford Farm

5.0

Ruckersville, VA
  • Venue
  • Up to 200 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $6,500

Guildford Farm is located just north of Charlottesville in Greene County, tucked away in the heart of Virginia’s wine country. This ideal wedding and event venue boasts the perfect setting with fantastic panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, rolling green meadows, and a shimmering lake. An event at Guildford Farm is enhanced by exquisite scenery, natural charm, and rich history.

We don't have enough incredible things to say about Guildford Farm. We paired our event with Katie's planning services which is a must-do; however, i'm separating the venue review from the specific owner's planning (she was stellar). The venue includes both the reception/wedding space, and also a home, and I am including both in this review. 1, VALUE- Incredible value for a full weekend and on-site lodging. The amount we and our bridal party saved in hotel cost more than makes up for the full-weekend fee, and what could possibly be better than hanging out with your favorite friends all weekend? If you're looking for winery-aesthetic with more freedom and lower cost than most C-ville winery venues, this is your spot. The best part is this reception/wedding space is a blank canvas and can be dressed up several ways, so you aren't cornered into a vibe (ex. don't have to go rustic, don't have to go glam, etc). 2, PHOTOS - gorgeous photo spots. They have a classic bridal suite, 2 balconies, mountain backdrops, field backdrops, a pond, and a home with so much vintage character packed into aesthetic rooms - three of which are themed by color which makes for adorable photos with 10/10 natural morning lighting. The venue includes a masculine den for groomsman photos. The arbor is built-in which also saves time and improves photos. 3, FUN - As of writing this review, the venue comes with over-sized games (ex. jenga, connect-4) which makes cocktail hour way more fun. It also comes with a bar which saves lots of for rentals. If you like fishing, there is a pond, and trails for hiking. There is also a sick basement space for groomsmen to stash away and hang out all day. If you want a "royalty" moment, there is an interior balcony from the bridal suite where you can go watch the party (or bridal party entrances) from far above. 4, PRIVATE - There is nothing around to cause any sort of noise disturbance or traffic or wedding crashers. There is shopping/target about 15 minutes away, so you can run out to get emergency items if needed. The stars at night are super bright due to minimal light pollution. 5, EASY - If you have anxiety about timelines being crunched, your reception ending too early, or forgetting your rings in your bedroom, Guildford is the best possible venue to battle those fears. The layout allows for easy movement between spaces which minimizes risk of timeline-derailment. While we didn't run into weather issues, I would say the venue can moderately flex for rain - they have backup plans, and while obviously any rain plan is not ideal, your wedding attendees wouldn't be soaked and you could still have a pretty ceremony/reception. It's also high on a hill, which means ground would be less muddy. Will return to the review to upload photos if Zola allows me to.

Their cabins are so cute and fully stocked. There is so much todo on the property and they are not far from breweries/wineries, etc. Our wedding was absolutely perfect at Montfair

The Barns at Layz S Ranch

5.0

Palmyra, VA
  • Venue
  • Up to 150 guests
  • Raw space
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $6,000

Couples can host a gorgeous outside ceremony on the concrete patio, or opt for a covered pavilion ceremony. The pavilion is open on three sides to bring the beautiful scenery indoors, but the sides and barn-style doors can be closed in the event of inclement weather. Inside the pavilion, lighting is provided by lanterns and chandeliers, and a large hand-crafted fireplace takes spotlight, with rocks from the farm incorporated into its design. The outdoor patio is attached to the pavilion, creating an extra space that can be used for a ceremony, reception area, or dance floor. A second pavilion was completed in 2018 to provide reception space that is separate from the ceremony site, but within close proximity. This pavilion is completely enclosed and offers a gas fireplace as well as lanterns and chandeliers for lighting. As wedding guests arrive, wedding parties can use the bridal suite to get ready.

We absolutely loved this venue. Working w Pam was very easy. The ability to get in the set up the day before was a lifesaver. I would highly recommend this venue. Only downside is there's no way to heat up food and no ice on site. We made it work and would recommend Lazy Z Ranch to anyone. Thank you!!!!

Ashley Cox Photography

5.0

  • Photographer
  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $8,000
  • Serves Free Union, VA

Ashley Cox Photography is a professional wedding photography studio based in Virginia. Ashley has an eye for beauty in every moment of your wedding day, and preserves it with an artistic touch. She has worked as a wedding photographer for many years, providing exceptional service and stunning collection for each couple. Ashley thrives on capturing the intimate moments where your true beauty shines. She offers a variety of photography packages for weddings of every size, style, and budget.

Do yourself a favor and hire Ashley for your wedding, event, family photos, etc. - she is absolutely AMAZING!! We hired her for our June wedding and it was the best money we spent, hands down. Everything from coordinating our engagement shoot to planning the shots we wanted at the wedding was seamless. Ashley is not just a wedding photographer; she is a true artist and has an incredible talent for styling shoots on the fly, troubleshooting in challenging environments, and making everyone feel SO comfortable. One of my main concerns with our photos was that we would look stiff - with Ashley that was not an issue. She had us laughing and feeling so relaxed from the very beginning. On our wedding day, Ashley was extremely efficient and worked around our desire to have the first look at the ceremony, while also somehow getting all the shots we wanted plus a lot more. We even made the last 15 minutes of our cocktail party! The photos are art-quality, timeless, and everything we hoped they would be - she captured the day exactly as we remembered it, even the crazy-packed dance floor! I really cannot recommend Ashley enough, we will absolutely be using her again in the future!!

Willow Branch Flowers

5.0

  • Florist
  • Starts at $4,000
  • Serves Free Union, VA

Willow Branch is Step mother/daughter team, Cathy Coyle and Mary Pearl Monnes. Willow Branch has grown from a life long love of flowers, gardening, art, nature and all things beautiful. Backgrounds in fine art and horticulture enable us to visualize unique combinations of color, form and texture with consideration for each individual couple and season. We work closely with dedicated local growers to select the best material for our designs. Embracing seasonal selections allow the beholder to take forward a memento of their experience, reliving the beauty of a day again and again in the passing of seasons.

As with many women, I have been dreaming about my wedding since I was a little girl playing pretend. My husband and I also had a two-year long engagement, so I dreamed even more intensely about what everything would look like. What we couldn't have predicted was how unbelievably gorgeous everything would look, because our florals were so vibrant and fresh and beautiful. I have never seen flowers so bright and healthy as Willow Branch Flowers'. They really made everything else in our wedding pop, and I'm so happy I got my bouquet preserved so I can always have a piece of these gorgeous florals. They were so easy to work with, very responsive, and even stayed after the ceremony to help set up the reception. The arch was easily my favorite part, but every table and votive and even the flower girls' petals were absolute perfection. They are completely worth it and more. I HIGHLY recommend booking with them!
