Amanda Nguyen founded the company in 2017, determined to push the cake industry towards a more modern aesthetic, more nuanced flavors, using technology to create a better customer experience, and ethical treatment of food industry workers.

I started Sammycakes in 2014 with a simple ombré rosette cake. It’s always been a dream and passion of mine to open my own bakery, after being inspired by my mother always baking for special occasions when I was a kid.

Every cake is a unique collaboration between my clients and I. No two are ever the same, and that's the way it should be. The price of my cakes varies with the size and complexity of the design. If you can’t already tell, we really, really love doughnuts. And it’s our mission to share that love with you, whether it’s in one of our shops, at one of our trucks, at your next event, or even at work. For us, it all started with learning the art of handcrafted doughnuts made from wholesome ingredients. Inspired by history, our recipes started with classic doughs from the 1920’s that we play with based on seasonality and the freshest local ingredients we can find. Our doughnuts are handmade with care, and are fresh every day, of course.

Raised in Ukraine, I grew up loving the delectable European cakes my mother would bake from scratch. This experience cultivated my love for sweets and baking, and taught me to appreciate desserts that offer both exceptional flavor and just the right amount of sweetness.

When I opened SF Candy Bar in 2012, the business was busy from the start. In 2012, the economy was just coming out of a recession and Silicon Valley started to attract top talent from all over the world. Experiential add on features, like our candy buffets, was fun at office parties, trade shows and holiday parties. Brides and Mitzvahs also found so much joy in our services. Fast forward to more than a decade later, we have added on more services from popcorn buffets, custom packaged party favors, and trail mix buffets. SF Candy Bar is dedicated to providing stunning buffet designs to guests at special events.

Auntie Viv's is an AAPI woman-owned & family operated small business adventure. When we visited Maui for the first time, and I fell in love at “first taste” with my very first Hawaiian shave ice. How I describe this phenomenon: “It literally was like a deliciously flavored, puffy cloud that instantly melted in my mouth & tasted like liquid gold. It was the best epicurean experience ever." I had my sights set on opening my own shave ice business & spending more time with my husband & two young daughters. I found myself being unhappy, working really long hours & it took a toll on my physical & mental health. Auntie Viv's opened Sept. 2017.

Laura Curtis, a Culinary Institute of America grad, was working as a R&D chef when she made her first batch of bright pink, tart & fruity Raspberry Hibiscus marshmallows. Her husband suggested she name the new amply fluffy creations Malvi, short for malvavisco, the Spanish word for marshmallow. She created Malvi Mallows using European-Style butter and Fair-Trade chocolate to make Malvi cookies extra rich, and dried hibiscus flowers, locally roasted espresso, whole vanilla bean, and organic Georgia peanuts to maximize marshmallow flavors, then built a business so that everyone can party s'more.
