Our Story

We both swiped right. The rest was history. Just kidding. After swiping right and days of exchanging messages, Diana agreed to go on a date with Andrew on Christmas Eve. She had a picture on her profile at a climbing centre, and as Andrew likes climbing, he suggested rock climbing as a first date to mix things up. To this day, it’s a miracle that they went past that first date - between Diana not wanting to leave a cute puppy before even starting to climb and Andrew telling Diana to do “one more” climb 5 or 6 times, the relationship could have ended right there. Shortly after making their relationship official, the world was thrown into chaos with the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite being physically apart, Andrew and Diana managed to continue their late night chats and Netflix parties (virtually). When restrictions relaxed, Andrew moved into Diana’s flat in London for weeks at a time, which gave them both a good glimpse into what living with each other would look like. This went so well that Diana found herself settling in Cambridge with Andrew by October 2020. They spent just under a year living in a one-bedroom flat before looking to upsize to a house because Diana told Andrew that if we didn’t move somewhere that allowed dogs, she might have to reconsider their relationship (she was kidding, mostly). Fast forward to December 2021, having moved into a pet-friendly house a few months earlier, Andrew and Diana brought home their little fur baby, a crazy Golden Retriever named Norman. Norman, however, posed a bigger test to their relationship than Diana ever imagined. From potty training in the middle of winter to Norman’s biting and sharp baby teeth, Diana feared she pushed Andrew too far. This was far from the truth, although waiting for him to pee or poo in negative temperatures was testing. Instead, Norman has quickly become one of their best decisions. He has brought them even closer and is very clearly only the first step in growing their family.

The Proposal

November 16, 2022

The first time Diana took Andrew to New York, they went for a walk to one of Diana's favourite spots in Central Park - a little gazebo next to the lake. They got some bread and fed the birds in the lake that day. Andrew, thinking ahead, thought it would be a nice place to propose one day. But what Andrew didn't know was that this spot was also where Diana always imagined would be great for a proposal. The following year when they went back to the US for Thanksgiving, they decided to take a trip to DC for a few days before coming back to the city. In DC, Diana dragged a reluctant Andrew engagement ring shopping. Little did she know that Andrew had a little red box tucked away in his backpack back at the hotel. Andrew pushed to head back to the city earlier so they could "go for a walk in the park" before seeing some friends for dinner that evening (daylight hours were limited)! Thinking nothing of it, Diana and Andrew headed back to NYC, stopped by Starbucks to pick up a bagel for the birds, and went to their spot in Central Park. Diana was throwing some pieces of bagel into the lake to bring the birds closer, and the last thing she said before turning around to find Andrew on one knee was "Oh, the geese are coming!" Naturally, her reaction to seeing the ring was "You didn't get the ring yet!" much to Andrew's confusion as he held the ring out in front of her. Her answer was an obvious yes.
