Mountain Biking
The Activities Center at Sun Mountain Lodge offers front suspension bikes by Giant for rent on an hourly or daily basis. The knowledgeable staff has maps and trail riding suggestions for all abilities, from beginner to expert. The expansive trail system at Sun Mountain Lodge alone offers over 40 miles of single and double track trails with great views of the Methow Valley and North Cascade Mountains
Hiking
Whether you are looking for a short nature walk or a challenging day hike, Sun Mountain Lodge offers access to some of the most stunning hikes in the country. In fact, over 40 miles of trail depart directly from your door! On-property hikes include the mile-long Interpretive Loop Trail complete with signs detailing the geology, flora and fauna of the area, the 2.5 mile View Ridge/Sunnyside Loop with spectacular vistas of Mt. Gardner, Mt. Robinson, and the North Cascades, and the 2.5 mile Beaver Pond/Rodeo Loop with shaded walking and the occasional Beaver sighting
Perseid Meteor Shower
According to NASA, the Perseids Meteors are perhaps the most popular meteor shower of the year, and they'll be in peak "shower" on the same Saturday & Sunday nights of the wedding wknd. Those evenings, people should see about 60-70 meteors per hour, but in outburst years (such as in 2016) the rate can be between 150-200 meteors an hour. The meteor shower's peak will be visible both the nights of Aug. 11-12 and Aug. 12-13. So channel your inner Neil deGrasse Tyson or Bill Nye the science guy and LOOK UP!
Horseback Riding
Sun Mountain Lodge offers guided horseback rides for 1.5 hrs or half day trips. Contact the Lodge for more information.
Old Schoolhouse Brewery
Try some local beer or have lunch on the patio outside by the Chewuch River. This Brewery was voted #1 Small Brewery in Washington State in 2013 at the Washington Beer Awards and creates award-winning craft beer that satisfies the discerning hop head as well as those who prefer a lighter taste. Grant's favorite = Epiphany Pale
Wine Tasting
Go wine tasting at Lost River Winery - Locally made fine wines of Washington State featuring a wine patio/garden. Tasting room on Hwy 20 just west of town gates. Open 11:00-5:00 Fri.- Mon., also by chance or by appointment.
Golfing
The nearest golf course to Sun Mountain Lodge is Bear Creek Golf Course, located just off the Eastside County Road southeast of Winthrop. Bear Creek is a challenging nine-hole course with 18 different tee boxes, featuring spectacular views of the North Cascade Mountains from every hole.
