Aaron and Marissa meet while working on a film set at Huntington University. He's a wisecracking sound recordist, and she's a nervous behind-the-scenes photographer who takes many more photos of him making weird faces than she would care to admit.
Aaron and Marissa start seeing more of each other in between classes and while editing in the lab. He invites her to grab dinner with the Baker Boys at the DC. She agrees, and only mildly regrets it.
Aaron falls hard for the Terminator-quoting, Steve Irwin-impersonating Freshman, and stays late in Becker to teach her how to edit. Marissa, oblivious to his feelings, believes that he is just a very nice upperclassman with too much time on his hands.
Aaron confesses his feelings, and Marissa rejects him. For a few minutes, it is awkward. Then they go to the Wright Lounge to watch Stranger Things. Business continues as usual.
Marissa has been accepted into the Baker Boys Pseudo-Fraternity, and has gained a basic understanding of editing. Meanwhile, Aaron has accepted that his feelings are not reciprocated, and has decided to move on.
Aaron and Marissa have been busy with school, but still find time to hang out in the editing lab. They have created a masterpiece of a short film, called I Love You for Your Brains, based on a prank Aaron pulled when he made her a new playlist consisting of only accordion music. Marissa has realized that she might like him, but is scared that he has moved on.
The Baker Boys begin playing through a horror game, and though neither Marissa nor Aaron are horror fans, they join in on watching the game. As the game goes on and the tension grows, so, too, do the feelings between Aaron and Marissa. Aaron, afraid of a second rejection, says nothing; and Marissa, preoccupied with class projects, tries her best to ignore it.
Marissa and Aaron have been working tirelessly on finishing final cuts of films before they are due. Aaron finishes his, but continues to stay late to keep Marissa company. He reminds her when it is time to eat, and they grab sandwiches from the Hub. Stressed, hungry, and exhausted, Marissa confesses her feelings to Aaron while the two of them are eating. It's about time.
Class projects have been completed and the semester is dying down. Aaron and Marissa meet at the Hub for lunch, and discuss the next step in their relationship. They decide that long distance isn't really that bad, so long as they get to see each other again. And so they make plans to see each other over the summer, and look forward to the next semester of school.
Time jump. Aaron and Marissa go out on a date to see a movie. On the way back, Aaron grows nervous. They get out of the vehicle and walk back to the dorms. As they walk, Aaron stops under a lamp and takes Marissa's hand. He kneels down, and pulls out a ring. It is a ring pop. Marissa is not amused. They continue to the dorms. As they approach Baker, the Baker Boys slowly file out, looking very serious. Marissa becomes worried. Then the Boys hold up signs reading "Will you marry us?" and Aaron gets down on his knee once more. He pulls out a real ring, and proposes. Marissa is very amused.
