Flight
The majority of guests will likely fly into Tokyo. There are two airports in the Tokyo area: Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT). Alternatively, some may want to fly into Kansai (KIX) which is located in Osaka, significantly closer to the wedding venue. Please keep in mind that there are much fewer flights going directly to Kansai, and they may be more expensive. As a reference, the grooms will be landing in Narita on 11/9 and spending 2 nights in Tokyo prior to going to Kyoto via Shinkansen (bullet train). ** Please note you do not need a visa nor any COVID-related documentation to travel to Japan. Do, however, make sure that your passports are still valid.**
Train
The majority of folks flying into Tokyo will take the train to Kyoto Station. The most time efficient way to travel is the Shinkansen (bullet train). Reservations can be made in advance for using the Shinkansen, but they generally don't fill up outside of rush hour. The Shinkansen runs regularly throughout the day from Tokyo to Kyoto. For those who fly directly into Osaka, you will be able to get to Kyoto via local trains. These trains will run very frequently and regularly throughout the day. *Please keep in mind that the metro system in Japan does NOT operate 24/7. If your flight arrives in the evening/night, we would strongly recommend finding a hotel near a major station and then taking a train out to Kyoto the next morning. ** For those who plan to travel around Japan before or after the wedding, you can consider getting a JR Pass. Hotel
We will be arriving in Kyoto on 11/11 and tentatively staying at this Ryokan (inn) the nights of 11/11 and 11/12. This will act as home base while we (Kevin, Alan, and family) travel around Kyoto. Our plan is to spend the entire day on 11/12 at Arashiyama Park visiting the monkey park, bamboo grove, Tenryu-Ji temple, Okochi-sanso Villa and taking the Sagano romance train. On 11/13, we plan on visiting 2 nearby temples: Tofukuji (known for its autumn leaves) and Fushimi Inari (10,000 tori gates).
