Shopping on South Congress
South Congress is a lively district south of Lady Bird Lake full of great boutiques, vintage shops, eateries, and bars. The main shopping boulevard is south of East Riverside Drive on South Congress Avenue.
Activity on Lady Bird Lake
Paddleboard, kayak, or canoe your way across Austin's Lady Bird Lake for views of the skyline. Walk, run or bike ride along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, which borders the lake, or take a float down the Lady Bird Lake Paddling Trail.
Live Music on Rainey Street
In downtown Austin, this strip of bungalow houses turned bars has a variety of live music. Great strip for bar hopping. Recommended for adults only after 6pm.
Hike along Barton Creek Greenbelt
Choose from many hiking trails along the green belt. The area is also known for rock climbing, mountain biking, and swimming.
Tour the Texas Capitol Building
Take a free, guided tour of the Capitol. The Texas Capitol building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 and is one of the largest capitol buildings in the country.
Bullock Texas State History Museum
Known as the official history museum of Texas, the Bullock is the place to learn about the story of Texas. See the 300-year-old ship of French explorer La Salle that sank in Matagorda Bay, numerous Native American artifacts, and more.
Barton Springs Municipal Pool
Massive public swimming pool, fed by a natural spring. Set within Zilker Park, the pool is surrounded by lawns for sunbathing, and the water temperature is a cool 68 degrees year-round. Might be a polar plunge in March!! Jump in at your own risk ;)
