This is the most popular beach in Rhode Island and is a great spot for all ages with two beautiful pavilions, boardwalk, observation tower and sitting areas along the boardwalk. The Canonchet Memorial, a 6,000-pound limestone statue of Narragansett tribe Chief Canonchet, is located on the Green at Exchange Place on the Narragansett Pier.
The Ferry's main terminal is located in Narragansett by Judith's point. The ferry runs from Downtown Newport (Perotti Park) to Old Harbor, Block Island, taking one hour. Black Point Trailhead is a scenic hiking destination along a rocky coastline with the remains of a historical stone building to view! This 2.1-mile out-and-back trail near Narragansett is generally considered an "easy" route with a 59ft elevation gain, taking an average of 39 minutes to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, cross-country skiing, and fishing, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
Fisherman's Memorial State Park, established in 1953 is a public recreations area and campground encompassing 91 acres on Point Judith point in the Town of Narragansett, Rhode Island. The park was originally Fort Greene, which was used to protect the western side of the Narraganset Bay during World War II. It was named after war hero, Nathaniel Greene from Warwick, RI. During the war, the military base was designed to look like a farm and barn silo to keep it from being attacked. The lovely and well-manicured site has the look and feel of a seaside village that attracts the locals as well as others who come from all over the country to visit.
The Judith Point Light is located on the west side of the entrance to Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island as well as the north side of the eastern entrance to Block Island Sound. Standing 51 feet tall, it has a 24-foot base tapering up to 13 feet at the top. The first Judith Point Lighthouse was an octagonal shaped wood tower and was built in 1810. There's no record of what kind of lighting apparatus was used in the light at that time. The light structure was blown down during a hurricane in 1815. The second lighthouse, a stone tower this time, was built in 1816. Point Judith is most famous for being the site of the last sinking of an Allied ship in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II. On May 5, 1945, at 05:40, the German submarine U-853 torpedoed the collier, SS Black Point, en route to Boston, She was within sight of the United States Coast Guard lighthouse station at Judith Point.
