This is a fantastic museum and well worth a visit if you have the time. It is humongous so leave yourself at least 3 or so hours!
Check out the bar where Laura and Chuck first met* (*technically we met the night before at Tipitina's for 30 seconds but Lucy's is where we really hit it off!)
Come see the famous Preservation Hall Jazz Band perform. Shows are nightly. Things to know in advance: Preservation Hall does not serve drinks and you may end up sitting on the floor! This probably sounds weird but we promise it's worth checking out.
Frenchmen Street is home to a high concentration of bars and music venues in a few short blocks. If you love live music it's absolutely not to be missed! Our favorites are Blue Nile, dBa, the Spotted Cat, and Maison. Music styles range from brass bands to more traditional jazz to funk and more. Something to know in advance: most venues charge a cover of $5-$10 for evening shows. Don't let that deter you, the performances you'll see are absolutely worth it.
Check out the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Botanical Gardens. It's also a nice place to just walk around.
We've never actually done one of these. But if you're looking to see the surrounding wetlands, this would be fun.
Whitney Plantation is a museum of slavery on the grounds of a historical sugar, rice and indigo plantation established in 1752. On your tour, you will learn about the lives of people who were held in bondage on these grounds for over 100 years. Whitney Plantation is a unique experience, providing a view of plantation life from the perspective of the enslaved people that lived there. Your tour will lead you through memorials honoring over 100,000 people held in slavery in Louisiana, as well as original slave cabins, outbuildings, and an owner’s house built in 1790.
If you're interested in learning about New Orleans' haunted past, we'd recommend taking one of these tours. Several tour companies offer these, usually starting and finishing at a bar. Your guide will take you past several famous haunted places in the French Quarter.
