Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Caroline Cox and Fleming Bors-Koefoed
In addition to exploring all the sites and experiences Colorado Springs and Denver have to offer (which are just a short drive from Florissant/Lake George), here are a few attractions close to the wedding venue! If you have the time, we also recommend exploring other ski towns in the mountains. Some of our favorites include Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Winter Park, and Crested Butte. If you're feeling adventurous, consider attempting hiking one of the 58 "14ers" (peaks that exceed 14,000 feet in elevation). Mt. Bierstadt, Quandary Peak, and Pikes Peak are some of the "easiest". Interested, but not sure if you're up to it? You can also drive to the summit of Pikes Peak!
Eleven Mile Canyon & State Park

Eleven Mile Canyon & State Park

Co Rd 96, Florissant, CO 80816

Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area is located below the dam of the Eleven Mile Reservoir near Lake George in the southeast corner of South Park. The narrow, dirt road traversing the canyon used to be the old Colorado Midland Railroad bed before the dam and reservoir were constructed. Unlike the reservoir area, which has an open basin and rangeland type topography, the canyon itself is forested, lush, and rocky.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

The Florissant Formation is a sedimentary geologic formation outcropping around Florissant, Teller County, Colorado. The formation is noted for the abundant and exceptionally preserved insect and plant fossils that are found in the mudstones and shales.

Pike National Forest

Pike National Forest

Pike National Forest is comprised of 1,729 square miles of land in the front range of the Rocky Mountains. It contains most of the forest going west from Colorado Springs and is one of the closest national forests to Denver.

Lion's Den Disc Golf Course

Lion's Den Disc Golf Course

Florissant, CO 80816

Directly across the street from Mountain River Lodge! This course is built in a multi-use city park. The terrain is a mixture of open ground, pine trees, and exposed rock/boulders.

Manitou Incline Hike

Manitou Incline Hike

The Incline, CO

If you're up for a challenge, we recommend hiking (climbing) the iconic Manitou Incline -- one of the most popular hiking trails in Colorado. The Incline is steep. It gains over 2,000 feet of elevation in less than one mile, and consists of 2768 steps. We did it in early spring and while tough, it was worth it! Enjoy food and beer at the bottom in historic Manitou Springs. Get there early! Reservations may be required.

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods Road, Colorado Springs, CO

A must visit if you're in the Colorado Springs Area! Garden of the Gods is home to a plethora of geological and ecological rarities that make the park a prime site for nature lovers. From the discovery of a new species of dinosaur, to a subspecies of honey ant not previously recorded, this park is home to countless flora and fauna.

Honey Badger's Mountain Grill

18129 County Road 1, Florissant, CO 80816

Want food and an experience? Check out this establishment. Thanks Brian for finding the Honey Badger!
