About this venue

Will Geer, renowned for his New York stage and Hollywood career, faced blacklisting during the McCarthy Era. Establishing Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, California, Geer provided a haven for blacklisted artists. Supported by his botany background, the theatre thrived alongside a garden, sustaining the family. Geer's resurgence came with "The Waltons," leading to the formation of a non-profit theatre. Theatricum evolved into a professional repertory company, offering free Shakespeare workshops and concerts. Ellen Geer now leads the theatre, known internationally for its Shakespearean interpretations. With year-round classes, concerts, and outreach programs, Theatricum aims to nurture theatre enthusiasts in the Greater Los Angeles Metro area, carrying on Geer's legacy.
