Summit Events is PHENOMENAL! I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Since our initial meet and greet to our wedding day (which was about 8 months) Ben was pro-active, communicative, and passionate, and worked with us to create the wedding of our dreams! His company offers practically every service imaginable, and it was a relief to know Summit Events could handle everything from our uplighting and colored lights to our entire sound system, band, DJ, and string quartet. I appreciated all the services offered because like most couples planning a wedding, we wanted as few vendors as possible and upon hearing Summit Events and their wide variety of packages, we immediately knew Ben was the right fit for our 200 black tie wedding! Ben is so knowledgeable and an expert in all things lighting, music, and sound. Ben worked with us for months through various in-person and phone call meetings, even coming to our venue to do a walk-through with us to ensure everything would be perfectly organized and pre-selected/arranged for the wedding day. He assisted us in selecting the various colored uplights and general lights for different portions of our reception. The guests were in awe with all the changing colors and lighting effects, the vibe changed from chill/relaxed dinner hues to flashing/colored lights for the dancing portions, and everything in-between, it was amazing! Now for the music! In the months leading up to the wedding, Ben generously gave us so much time and energy in helping us create different vibes for the different portions of the reception. He understood our vision and ran with it! His app was user-friendly (even for the most un-technologically inclined person such as myself) and allowed us to add songs to different portions of the day, and also detailed notes about introductions, speeches, and anything else we wanted him to know/do. The wedding day was flawless! Ben was an enthusiastic, fun, and wildly upbeat DJ! The sting quartet (for our ceremony and cocktail hour) and band (for the majority of the reception) were phenomenal! We choose an 8-person band with 2 vocalists and primarily string instruments. All the musicians were so talented and all the music was beautiful. Jason (my new favorite person) was the lead singer and an amazing vocalist/musician. He also met with us multiple times, in person and on the phone, to make sure he understood exactly what our vision was and the type of music we wanted played at various portions of the day. He was kind, knowledgeable, and patient (even when we told him about our surprise bridal flash mob dance)! He personally composed various musical arrangements with the instruments/songs we requested, his passion and talent were unsurpassed! Jason and the band were SO much fun! Their stage presence was the best of any band I've seen, they were engaging, high-energy, and sounded incredible. Guests were raving all evening and are still talking about how amazing our band/DJ sounded! Our guests danced all night and you couldn't pull anyone away from the dance floor! Our wedding day was perfect, we heard multiple comments from guests saying it was the best wedding they've ever been to. All thanks to Ben, Jason, and everyone at Summit Events! We couldn't be happier! They created our dream wedding and I cannot recommend them more!

Frederick DJs

4.0

Frederick, MD
  • DJ
  • Starts at $1,250
  • Serves Wiley Ford, WV

My team of DJs and I truly appreciate it. A little background on who I am and what sets Frederick DJs apart from the rest. Starting as a DJ as a kid, yes, a kid of only 14! I took a huge interest in the entertainment industry. It started a little before then, but that’s when I got into DJing. I fell in love with playing music for others while working at a roller-skating rink. (Wisconsin Sk8 University) I later moved on from the roller rink where I became a DJ assistant for a solo DJ who specialized in weddings. Let’s just day that gave me a whole new love for the job.

We recently had Robert DJ our June wedding. Pros were that he was on time and friendly. He handled little hiccups smoothly and w/o complaint. Prices are reasonable and he offers a lot of services, like ceremony recordings and fun add-ons. He really can be a one-stop shop for a lot of wedding entertainment. While I think he is a good all-purpose DJ, I'm not sure that he was the right fit for us in the end. Specifically our two biggest concerns were that 1) he didn't consistently use the language we had asked him to use to address guests and 2) communication leading up to the wedding was less organized than I would have preferred. In our case, we really prioritized communicating with vendors about our desire for an affirming, somewhat non-traditional wedding. From the onset when we hired vendors, we asked about comfort and experience working with a diverse range of guests and requested that vendors be attentive to using inclusive language, especially as it relates to including LGBTQ folks. In the case of DJ services, we requested he not use gendered language like "ladies and gentlemen" due to the gender diversity of our guests. We also had an integrated wedding party so we weren't using some of the traditional wedding party language. I get that this is a specific and maybe unusual request, so we wanted to be really sure our vendors were okay with it, and Robert was super friendly and agreeable when we talked about it. I think Robert's intentions were really good here -- he expressed a lot of desire to make sure he got this right and willingness to be careful. Maybe those requests were made too long ago though, because when we got to the day of, we had a lot of issues here. Our coordinator had to talk to him about using less gendered language, which did not seem to result in much improvement (there was definitely effort...at one point he said "ladies and....guests....esteemed guests" but then he went right back to "ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls"), and it was really frustrating for both us and her. He also told us we'd have a ceremony recording the day after. There was really no rush, but that was what he told us would happen. Instead, we got the recording a week later than he had originally stated, and we were not told it would be delayed until I asked twice. I think it's also worth noting that the ceremony recording did not include the music for procession and recession. (This is on us, we should have confirmed that would be included, but it was disappointing) Communication tended to be a little last-minute and unscheduled -- e.g., spontaneous phone calls rather than putting something on the calendar. Followups were sometimes required. He also texted me (bride) the morning of asking if he could bring an assistant and requesting we add a meal for that additional person. Not a big deal, but I do wish he would have communicated in advance/not while we were all trying to get ready. Otherwise, I thought/heard feedback that some of the music transitions were a bit awkward, but not to an extent that was too disruptive. None of these are big issues, but the multitude of small communication inconveniences and frustrations did add up to where I would not feel comfortable recommending Frederick DJs to a friend. Robert is nice, but I'm not sure he was the right call for our needs. He might be a better fit for someone else, particularly if you are looking to include a number of add-ons and want to use one, reasonably-priced company

Hiring AMP was the all time BEST decision we could have made for our wedding! We had immediate comfort and trust in them from the first time we spoke, and the show they put on for our day was better than we ever could have imagined. They were incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the whole process of planning and had no problem with even the most far-fetched ideas (including my wife surprising me by getting up and playing the drums with the band). If we asked each and every person what their favorite part of our wedding was, hands down it was the music. Ana, Jimmy, and the rest of the band had everyone dancing the entire night without question. It was hit after hit after hit with the whole crowd! So many people rushed to us to ask how we got so lucky finding them. Ana and Jimmy truly respected and acknowledged everyone’s pronouns and made everyone in our family and party seen and comfortable through the entire process. AMP put their entire heart and soul into every performance. Their passion is so evident with each song they play, and their energy is just contagious. You cannot help but smile and dance throughout their whole set. And the TALENT! The talent is through the roof! All of our guests were completely shocked at the level of professionalism and talent AMP brought to our event. I cannot stress enough how utterly amazing AMP is. Do yourself a huge favor and book them, you will not regret it for a second.

The "Original" Moonlighters ®

3.7

Washington, DC
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $2,000
  • Serves Wiley Ford, WV for additional fees

Since 1990, The Moonlighters ® have been performing throughout the U.S. as one of the country’s best-loved and most authentic Motown and variety dance bands, covering all your Jazz/Blues/Oldies/Motown/Soul/Disco/Funk/Classic Rock/Pop favorites! Just close your eyes and you’ll swear the original artists are performing. But don’t close them for too long or you won’t be able to enjoy their outstanding dance moves and showmanship.

We're quite saddened by their google review, posted even before we had a chance to actually speak with them to clear up several serious inaccuracies. Our band has HUNDREDS of positive online reviews/satisfied wedding clients. And we'll always accept valid criticism. But this one is mostly false and unfair. As Zola does not provide the option for responding to negative reviews, the following are our comments: 1. Since the bride and groom hadn't hired a wedding planner everything was extremely disorganized as we received their timeline just one week prior to the event, but then they changed it twice more, including two days before. Despite asking for our bandleader's phone #, the groom never reached out to discuss any of these details. In other words, we were given minimal direction in regard to all of the last-minute changes. Even on the wedding day itself, our band was asked to set and reset their equipment multiple times because the bride and groom disagreed with the onsite coordinator's floor plan, moving/resetting the bride and groom table as well! 2. According to what the photographer told us, the bride and groom's limo driver was over 90 min. late, shifting the entire timeline and putting them in a bad mood from the very beginning, as noticed by our bandleader at around 5:15pm when he first introduced himself, prior to the band providing either live or recorded music. 3. Regarding the recorded music, it was only lacking for approx. 45 min. as the band discovered the phone battery issue at approx. 7:45pm, during their first break, quickly rectifying the situation by putting the phone on a charger and then continuing with the recorded music outside from approx. 8-10pm. Furthermore, they made up for it by keeping their system running for an extra 30 min., beyond our contracted time of 11pm. And those comments regarding the afterparty are also totally untrue as somebody from the band was manning the system, until a cousin of the bride or groom demanded that he use her playlist instead, and then she responded angrily when he finally turned off the system at 11:30pm. 4. As for the band's sound system, we do acknowledge some 'hum' issues as there was just one electrical outlet provided for the entire band, resulting in 'dirty power' which couldn't be fully corrected. And we deeply regret mispronouncing the various names as most were very unfamiliar and of Indian origin, despite our lining up the wedding party in advance and writing everything down phonetically. 5. Even though some of the client's emails mentioned solo keys during cocktails, we provided a duo, covering an extra 30 min. of recorded music from 4:30-5pm at no extra charge, as requested. While it's standard practice for a band to take a dinner break during an almost six hr. event, this was clearly-specified in our contract as well. And then we performed continuously from 8:30-10pm, including most of the requested songs that we had prepared well in advance. So their comments about seemingly just 'walking off a bus' are completely false and misleading. In other words, our musicians went 'above and beyond' in spite of some very challenging circumstances. 6. Fortunately, we did receive a 'happy reaction' with a crowded dance floor and TONS of compliments from the guests, some requesting pictures w/the band too, while even the bride and groom were singing along and dancing non-stop, which we were VERY happy to see, making their negative review even more surprising though!
