Home of the Athens YMCA from 1889 until 1919, the original building on this site became a music store, movie house, hotel, Masonic Temple, furniture company and Sears Roebuck store before being replaced by the Elite Theatre in 1935. Except for a brief period as a Methodist church, this theatre – later renamed the Georgia Theatre – has served as a significant performance venue for emerging and established musicians from Athens and beyond. Devastated by a fire on June 19th, 2009, this historic concert hall has been rebuilt as a labor of love with reverence for the creative spirit that Athens has long embraced. Conley Creek is a newer venue opened in 2020 by Chad & Laura Winkler. We have a rustic yet modern feel with a large event barn to accommodate up to 150 guests seated and also a small white adorable chapel that seats around 50 inside. Both of these also provide outdoor options of seating of 150 guests! We do the setup for you and also provide two cabins, one for the bride and her guests and one for the groom and his guests. They can also be rented overnight if you want a fun last night of the single life!

In 1874, Father Theodore Butler purchased a home and a lot in Augusta, Georgia, for $10,000.00 to construct a building to be used as a church for the Catholic population and a school for children of all denominations. A simple Victorian structure served as a temporary facility for the church until work could begin on a larger, more significant building for the group. The first bricks were laid for Sacred Heart Church in 1897 and the church opened with the first service on December 2, 1900. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building features towering twin spires, graceful arches, fifteen distinctive styles of brickwork, ninety-four stained glass windows, a barreled vaulted ceiling, and intricately carved Italian marble altars. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, the last mass was held in Sacred Heart on July 3, 1971.
