While we have not yet finalized any travel plans, we are expecting to spend the week prior to the wedding in Portugal. Our plan will likely be to spend some time early in the week in Porto (about a 3-hour drive from the Lisbon area) and then travel down to Lisbon toward the end of the week and in the few days leading up to the wedding weekend. Please keep us updated on what you are thinking for your travel plans so we can consider them in our plans. P.S. We love Porto and HIGHLY recommend visiting if it's conducive to your other travel plans!
The wedding venue is located about 40 minutes outside of downtown Lisbon and about 30 minutes from the Lisbon airport. Taxis and Uber are both available in the area, and we are more than happy to help arrange/recommend means of transportation for anyone wanting some help with planning. Please see our "Travel" page and other FAQs for the venue address and additional information about transportation and accommodations.
We will be keeping close tabs on flights and will notify everyone when they become available. We expect this to be as early as June or July of this year (2023), and we recommend booking early for best prices and options for nonstop flights. Don't forget to update/apply for your passport if needed!
The wedding venue itself is located about a 40-minute drive outside of the downtown Lisbon area. For the dates of scheduled wedding events [Sunday (5/19) and Monday (5/20) night], we will have accommodations arranged at both the venue itself and at one of the nearby hotels (TBD - about a 15-minute drive away from the venue). In the days prior, we will be staying in downtown Lisbon and will be providing neighborhood recommendations for best access to sites and activities. Please keep an eye on our "Travel" page for updated information on where to stay.
Obviously, this is dependent on your travel plans, but the downtown Lisbon area is extremely walkable - something we love about the city! Taxis are also widely available and the Lisbon Metro is another affordable option for local travel. That being said, the Lisbon airport is about a 20-minute drive from the downtown area. The venue itself is also a 30-minute drive from the airport and 40-minute drive from downtown Lisbon. We will be renting a car to travel to the venue, and we expect some of our other guests will be renting cars as well. If you are hoping to avoid renting, we may be available to offer rides depending on dates/times of travel if needed! Otherwise, the airport also offers transportation via bus, taxi, and the metro and there are also taxis that can take you from downtown Lisbon to the venue. For anyone planning to travel to cities/regions outside of Lisbon, the train is typically a convenient and affordable option. It travels between Lisbon and Porto, as well as to Sintra, which houses some of Portugal's STUNNING palaces.
In addition to getting a count of who will be attending the wedding events, we are also hoping to get early head counts for other events surrounding the weekend. For this reason, we are asking that you please RSVP as early as you are able. We will note an official "RSVP by" date on your wedding invite, but we are hoping to receive as many as possible by November 1, 2023. Please keep in mind that flights will likely become available as early as June or July 2023. We recommend booking around this time for the most affordable and convenient flights.
Please check back frequently! We will be planning and recommending activities in the Lisbon area for anyone who is interested in joining us in the days leading up the wedding weekend.
Typical weather around Lisbon this time of year is in the high 60s to low 70s with little rainfall (fingers crossed).
We recommend cocktail attire for the wedding itself. Much of the wedding will take place outdoors, with temperatures likely to be in the high 60s or low 70s. The setting is a vineyard/garden courtyard. The Welcome Celebration will be a more casual BBQ, so we recommend "Daytime Casual" / "Garden Party" attire. For exploring Portugal, we definitely recommend packing comfortable shoes! Lisbon is a walking city with a lot of hills, so good walking shoes are a must. Western-style clothing is normal in Portugal, and they do not have strict dress codes. However, because of some of their religious roots, Portuguese locals tend to dress a little more conservatively. Please feel free to contact us with any questions!
Absolutely! We recognize that, for those who have kids and are able to make the trip, it would be incredibly difficult to leave your kids behind. We welcome your little ones and would LOVE to have them there to liven up the dance floor! Please just be sure to note whether your kids will be attending on the RSVP.
