In addition to being a lovely wedding venue, Ardenwood is a working farm with learning opportunities and live animals around the grounds. We saw a cat here on our first venue tour!!
We went for a hike and picnic here for our second date, and the rest is history!
Don Edwards is a great place for a low-impact walk/hike, and there is all kinds of wildlife to look at! From the website: In the heart of California's high-tech industry lies a 30,000-acre oasis for millions of migratory birds and endangered species. The nation's first urban national wildlife refuge sits on the southern end of San Francisco Bay. The refuge, created in 1972, was largely the result of grassroots efforts by the local community to protect the San Francisco Bay ecosystem.
Coyote Hills connects to Don Edwards via a footbridge over CA-84, though there is also parking available in Coyote Hills proper. Bigger and more intense hiking trails than Don Edwards, lots of wildlife and beautiful views from the top of the hill. From the website: Coyote Hills Regional Park was dedicated to public use in 1967. Comprised of 1,266 acres of marshland and rolling grassland covered hills, this busy park is located along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, northwest of the cities of Fremont and Newark. The most popular visitor activities by far are bicycling, walking, bird watching, jogging, nature exploration, and picnicking.
Rice and Spoon and their Banh Mi restaurant next door were standard fare for us when Sara was still living in Newark. Lots of healthy options and the pho is A+ for when you're feeling under the weather. From the website: Our restaurant presents a chic yet modern-rustic feel, and the ambiance is designed to reflect our current home living— relaxing, comforting and inviting with tasty food. We want to bring the tastiest and freshest ingredients into our menu, yet stay authentic to Vietnamese food to the community.
This place is definitely a crowd-pleaser for fans of Japanese food, and the owner is tons of fun (especially on Friday/Saturday nights). DON'T GET THE GREG ROLL. (or actually do get it but only if you're REALLY hungry)
