We met back in 2015 at a Naval aviation conference in Reno, Nevada called Tailhook, where Robert was just starting to learn to fly the F18, and I was in college and working a booth there selling jet fuel. My booth was giving out some goodies, and Robert just kept on coming back- probably every five minutes! Little did I know, he was working up the nerve to ask me for my Facebook (haha!). We became fast friends, and stayed connected for a while, me keeping up with his F18 flying, and him keeping up with my airline pilot life! Fast forward five years later, he makes a fuel stop in Dallas, where I was living. I met him for lunch, and the rest is history!
I was getting ready to finish my training for my new airline which had kept me away for ten weeks, and my final check-ride schedule kept getting moved around. Robert was ADAMANT that I do my best to keep my same finish date, which should have been my first clue as to what was coming! I was supposed to fly out to San Diego the day I finished my training to meet him out there for a weekend with friends. Luckily, I was able to finagle my way into keeping my schedule and I made it out to San Diego in time to meet our friends for "drinks". It was kind of an overcast, misty day, but afterwards our friend suggested we go to an overlook she knew of with a great view of the ocean. I again, didn't think anything of it, even though I probably should have questioned why everyone else would want to walk in the chilly mist to see the ocean- but I was thrilled to take in the view. We got there, were all taking it in, when I realized our friend recording me and Robert. I turned around, and he was on his knee, asking me the sweetest question I've ever heard. I (embarrassingly) burst into tears and said YES!
