Viejo San Juan or Old San Juan is the main attraction for visitors from all over. The pastel colored buildings and cobblestone streets are the perfect backdrop for restaurants, coffee shops, historic landmarks, and sometimes even street festivals. Don't miss this vibrant area! We highly recommend wearing comfortable, flat shoes as the streets can be very steep and uneven in some places.
Located in Viejo San Juan, El Morro is a historic fort on the corner of the island that boasts a beautiful view of clear blue waters among the historic architectural design. We recommend bringing water and sun protection here as the open air and minimal shade can get pretty toasty.
This rainforest in the mountains with waterfalls, lush greenery and occasional cloud visibility at the top is a must for anyone wanting to explore the nature of Puerto Rico! You will need a rental car to get here, but it's a fun day trip. If you go, we recommend stopping at the kioskos de Luquillo for a meal on your way back :)
The kiosks in Luquillo offer a variety of authentic Puerto Rican food, drink and shopping! And it’s right on the beach! You’ll need a rental car to make this treck outside of San Juan but the drive is worth it if you have a free day! Parking can be challenging so be prepared to spend some time circling around for spots. You’re on island time now so go with the flow and enjoy the sites and smells of delicious Puerto Rican cuisine. You can’t go wrong with any kiosk you pick, but one of our favorites is La Parilla. Some of our favorite food to get in the area are appetizer samplers with local bites such as croquetas, sofríelos (corn mill), cheese and guava, and entrees such as mofongo (mashed plantains with your choice of meat) or any seafood! You can get local authentic food in a lot of places, but this area is outside of the main tourist area and therefore much more cost effective.
This unique restaurant offers all of the chocolate concoctions of your dreams and is one of our favorite specialty experiences. From burgers and fries with chocolate salt and dipping sauce to cheese dipped in chocolate, there is a fun meal for everyone. If you aren’t feeling too adventurous, don’t worry they have regular chocolate as well! The original location is in Viejo San Juan, but there is a small location in Condado Beach as well.
Recently built, this lively area has a covered outdoor area where families can lounge and play, restaurants, movies, shopping and sometimes concerts (check online for scheduled concerts). You can go here if you have a few spare hours, but be aware, prices can vary here.
The venue we will be having the wedding at has a lot of fun activities including ziplining, horse back riding, ATV and UTV riding, archery and walking tours. If you have a free day and are an adrenaline junky, you should check out these activities.
For my space fans, this children's museum led by Puerto Rico's WAPA tv station Space Reporter, Ada Monzon (pictured at the first Artemis I launch attempt) is all about science and STEM. It's located inside the Mall of Americas and is open Wed-Sat from 9-4.
