Question

How should we prepare to travel to Mexico?

Answer

Make sure you have your passport (or that it hasn't expired). If you need to apply for one now, you have time. You will however not need a visa to visit Mexico. Check your cell phone plan to see what your international calling/text is. Most US plans treat Mexico the same as the US. All of the hotels on our travel list have wifi, as do a lot of the coffee shops. Before you leave let your bank know you are traveling. (Though we often forget and it has never been a problem.)

Question

How do we get to Sayulita?

Answer

Fly into the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), and Sayulita is about an hour by taxi or Uber ride North (and it is very affordable). Taxis are available directly outside the airport, and if you'd like to order an Uber they will pick you up just a short walk over the pedestrian bridge around the left corner of the building, once you exit the airport.

Question

Should we rent a car?

Answer

We DO NOT recommend a car for those staying in Sayulita. A taxi or Uber from the airport is cheap and Sayulita itself is very small, and walkable. Golf Carts are available for rent in Sayulita, and are the most popular mode of transportation around town.

Question

Is the water ok to drink?

Answer

It is not. Make sure you're drinking filtered or bottled water, even when you brush your teeth. Almost all hotels will provide drinking water so bring your reuseable water bottle! If you are staying at an airbnb and plan to cook food, wash your veggies and fruit with bottled water.

Question

Where should I get pesos?

Answer

While most shops take debit/credit cards, lots of restaurants do not. It is best to visit your local bank branch to get exchange USD for pesos. If you are unable to do a money exchange before you visit, we recommend withdrawing cash at the PVR airport where there are reliable ATMs that will give you the best exchange rate. Sayulita does not have many ATMs and they sometimes run out of money. Some places will take American dollars (though it is not preferred and the exchange rate won't be great) and lots of places take debit/credit cards.

Question

Whats the dress code?

Answer

Bring your hot weather clothes! While wandering around town, we recommend wearing swim suits so you can take a dip whenever the moment strikes you. Sayulita has an amazing, warm beach with gentle waves so don't worry about getting tumbled. For the wedding, wear your suits and fancy dresses but probably leave your heels at home. This is a beach wedding!

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

Head on over to the travel tab for a list of recommended hotels.

Question

Do people speak english in Sayulita?

Answer

A lot of people speak english, but some do not. Don't worry though, everyone is very patient when trying to breech the language barrier and google translate is a great resource. Almost all restaurants will have menus in english.

Question

Is Sayulita safe?

Answer

Yes. Sayulita is a small town popularized by surfers. It's a low key vacation destination for Mexicans and Americans alike.
