How We Met

Hinge - The Dating App we Proudly Deleted

While serendipitous meetings can happen, in reality, meeting people in a city as large as New York is often more challenging than romantic comedies like to portray it to be. Newcomers and longtime residents can vouch that meeting new people in New York City can be almost as tough as finding a decent apartment. Amber and Luke initially connected during the tumultuous days of the pandemic where they brought themselves together with the help of the digital hand of fate, also known as Hinge. Luke's misstep during their first date led them to the upscale establishment, Mission Ceviche, adjacent to their intended destination, La Esquina. Luke carried on having no idea he was dining outside the wrong restaurant. As Luke's describes it, thanks to the indistinguishable sea of outdoor dining that blurred the city's streets - but let's just say he was distracted by nervous excitement. Despite the fast-paced, albeit overwhelming dating culture in New York City, they had found each other at last!

The Proposal

Covert Operations - Deception - Double Agents - "Yes!"

With the invaluable assistance of their friends, Luke was able to craft an elaborate distraction. They pretended to plan a couples' getaway to Hudson, New York, a quaint upstate town they had longed to explore. Katy feigned renting an Airbnb, Luke convincingly conveyed that he had secured a rental car for their journey, and Julien artfully reserved a dinner for four. All the while Luke and Amber's family were planning their trips to NYC and these orchestrated plans served merely as a smokescreen for the grand reveal. On September 1, 2023 Luke would unveil his true intentions—proposing to Amber in Central Park on Gilder's Run. To bring Amber to the park involved the pretext of retrieving the decoy rental car at the sole automobile-accessible location within Central Park, the southeast bridle path. Hiding in the bushes filming, Branson captured the special moment with the help of a strategic lookout fulfilled by Katy disguised as an Upper East Side Granny. To say the least, Amber was surprised. Luke bent down on one knee at 40°46'54.3"N 73°57'46.3"W, and Amber said "Yes!" Visit the coordinates to find their commemorative paver! Steps away were family and friends from around the US, waiting to surprise Amber and celebrate.
