Nicole is a professional wedding photographer and has been to nearly every wedding venue the Twin Cities has to offer for her work. We wanted a destination site to mix things up and bring a fresh experience to our friends, family, and ourselves. We also wanted a place that would offer our attendees an amazing getaway weekend. We had traveled to Montana in June of 2020 for an engagement session Nicole was working and fell in love with the beauty of the area. The boutique (yet action-packed) town of Whitefish, the dry summer weather (fingers crossed), and the fact that not many people have made their way to Montana convinced us we had to have our event here.
Whitefish is not the easiest (or cheapest) place in the US to get to - and we recognize that. We know it will be a sacrifice for friends and families to get to our wedding destination - and completely understand not everyone will have the capacity to make the journey out. That being said, we suggest tracking alerts on Google Flights immediately to both Kalispell and/or Bozeman airports. Kalispell is right in the town of Whitefish. Bozeman is 4.5/5 hours south of Whitefish - so you would need to plan a road trip. Cheaper flights can be found if the traveling party is willing to deal with a layover (several options with layovers less than an hour can save fliers hundreds of dollars) or willing to leave on a weekday (following the wedding weekend). Driving is a feasible option, but the ride is long. We suggest splitting the drive into two 9-hr days. There's a handful of routes/stopover cities you'll want to map on your own. The journey back (after the fun/games) will be the hardest part!
We have discount codes for those wanting to stay at the Whitefish Lake Lodge - the location of the wedding ceremony/reception (as well as the spot where a majority of the wedding party is staying). The Lodge is a pricier option - and there are limited rooms available. Within the town of Whitefish there are a host of other lodge, hotel, rental, and budget options. Check out the 'Travel' page for some suggestions, do some research on your own, or reach out to us individually should you need any ideas/options!
Check out our 'Things to do' page and do some Googling on your own! There are plenty of activities for folks of all ages! Boating, hiking, fishing, biking, golfing, national parks, camping, skydiving, drinking, eating, shopping, and exploring are all a stones throw away! Consider extending your trip to check out Yellowstone National Park and/or Glacier National Park - two spots that are bucket-list worthy!
Whitefish is an adorable, quaint mountain town with shops, bars and restaurants. All of the options mentioned in the above 'What is there to do in Montana?' are available to do in/around Whitefish. You will definitely want to take the gondola to the top of the ski mountain and have a drink at the top while enjoying the view!
Ubers/Lyfts/Taxis do exist in Whitefish! Car rental will be necessary if you want to do some exploring on your own that will require navigation above & beyond 30ish miles. On the day of the wedding we will have a shuttle that brings folks from the reception to the after party. The shuttle will run on a back-and-forth loop between The Lodge and the downtown after party spot (it's a 2 mile route) until 11:15pm.
