Question

Shuttles

Answer

A shuttle will be running to take people to the ceremony at Deer Lake and back to the reception. You are also able to call Boyne shuttle service for rides around the venue at any time throughout the weekend, and for a ride home at the end of the evening. There is also a lit walking path from the reception venue to Disciples Ridge. Pickup times at 2:20, 2:40, 3:00, 3:20. The ceremony begins at 3:30. Please hop on a shuttle immediately following the ceremony that will bring you back to begin celebrating on the Hemlock lawn with a cocktail hour followed by the reception.

Question

What is a Tisch?

Answer

TISCH Tisch, Yiddish for "table", is a pre-wedding. celebration where close family and friends gather around a table to celebrate (and tastefully roast) the bride and groom, sing, have drinks and begin the celebration. Some friends and family will be giving toasts. The couple will sign the ketubah (the Jewish marriage contract) as well as the legal marriage license. During the tisch, everyone is encouraged to grab a drink, appetizers, and bang on the table, interrupting toasts/roasts with songs and advice. Feel free to jump in and share a few words (toast- worthy or roast-worthy). You'll get the hang of it, especially the more drinks you enjoy :) Afterwards we will have every sit down for more traditional ceremony. This will begin at 3:30 PM at Deer Lake with the ceremony immediately following.

Question

Ketubah Signing

Answer

The ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract that outlines a couple's legal obligations to one another. Kurt and Miriam have chosen an egalitarian ketubah which honors equality and mutuality in marriage, a shared value of the couple. They will be sharing the words of the ketubah during their vows in the ceremony.

Question

The Horah

Answer

A favorite part of Jewish weddings, the horah is a festive dance done at Jewish celebrations, including weddings. Historically, it was an Ashkenazi (Eastern European-Jewry) tradition that featured a klezmer band that played traditional Jewish and Yiddish music (heard of Hava Nagila?). Today, it's a wide-spread part of many Jewish weddings. Our horah will be a mix of traditional horah music and Israeli pop songs. There's no right way to dance at a horah-grab a hand and join in!

Question

Chuppah

Answer

Kurt and Miriam will marrv under the chuppah, a marriage canopy, that symbolizes the home they will build together. The chuppah has four poles and is open on all sides to invoke openness and generosity. This chuppah was built by Mason Mallory with wood collected in northern Michigan and used in his wedding to Miriam's sister, Hannah. Miriam's brother, David, was also married to his wife, Stephanie under this chuppah. The chuppah is covered by Miriam's grandfather's talit (Jewish prayer shaul).

Question

Who is singing at the wedding?

Answer

May Erlewine is an incredible friend, musician and song-writer who will play original music during the ceremony. Her music has touched people all over the world. Her words have held solace for weary hearts, offered a light in the darkness, and held space for the pain and joy of being alive in these times. She holds a special place in the hearts of The Brown Family and we are honored to have her as a part of our ceremony today.

Question

Are children invited to the wedding?

Answer

As much as we love all of your families, children are not invited to the wedding ceremony or reception. We are working on getting some options for childcare through Boyne, we will let you know when this is available. Thank you for being so understanding. Children and families are welcome to come to the Welcome BBQ on Thursday and the Friday night reception, please include them in the RSVP!
