The story begins when Matt and Alicia met through a mutual friend (thanks Vivian!) at a climbing gym. Glances were stolen and climbing skills admired, but it wasn't until Matt offered Alicia some bubble tea, effortless conversation, and a ride home did they truly realize how compatible they were. Historians are still debating whether this was the first official date, some argue that the first real date took place a couple days afterwards when Matt and Alicia huddled for warmth in a café until close, playing Mariokart, much to the chagrin of the baristas closing up. The year was early 2020, and we all know what happened next… Among the panic, controversy and toilet paper shortages. These two were blissfully building lives together, first in Minecraft, then in Animal Crossing, and also IRL (in real life). In a way, the world had stopped, but for them, there was ample opportunity for long walks, impressions of wildlife and improvised lyrics and dance moves to their favorite songs. As the pandemic restrictions loosened and life gradually went back to normal, several changes occurred throughout each of their lives, but the love, support and companionship never waned, only strengthened. Matt and Alicia expanded each other's horizons through travel, art, music and outdoor adventures. By the end of 2021, Matt and Alicia were living together in downtown Calgary and on her birthday, the following year, Matt asked Alicia to be his wife. She said, "what the heck!" several times, but eventually communicated "Yes!". Meanwhile, their pet frogs sang with joy. 🐸🐸🐸
