Mark and Alex formally met at Phoenix Landing on November 10, 2021. Of course, Alex had seen Mark several times before this, but that fateful Wednesday is the day that Mark decided while hosting trivia to rap the answers to a round of quiz themed after the Beastie Boys. Alex found this irresistable, and expressed to her friend Joe that she found the trivia host really cute. Joe told her that she had nothing to lose, so she might as well just text him; Joe also, however, told Alex that he really likes this trivia, and asked if she could pretty please be careful that things not get messy so they can keep coming every Wednesday. Huge success! Alex flirted with Mark the best way she knows how: creating puzzles out of ABBA songs using emojis (e.g. 💃👑). Somehow it worked, and they got coffee the very next day. Then, they got drinks on Friday. Then bagels on Saturday. Then donuts on Sunday. From the very beginning, they both knew this was something real; after seeing each other almost every day for their first week together, Mark encouraged "thoughtful pacing" so that they wouldn't fizzle out. Mark simmers, Alex boils. It's what makes them such a good team. In February 2022, Alex brought Mark to Pine Hill (aka The Yellow House, we call it Pine Hill even though it isn't technically in Pine Hill, we know it's confusing) for the first time and he fell in love with the house the same way he had fallen in love with Alex. While they were washing dishes and packing up the house, they started talking about moving in together. By September, this was a reality, and they moved into their first home together on Michigan Avenue in Somerville. This is where they started building their life together, with countless parties, the creation of Goblintown, and so many nights spent laughing together. In December 2022 they brought their cat Floyd home, and since then, they have been an inseparable trio. Mark proposed to Alex on July 13, 2024 in Pine Hill, their favorite place. He created a custom escape room (a favorite hobby of theirs) for Alex to solve using the decor around the house as the puzzles, and it is the most impressive escape room Alex has ever seen. Surrounded by friends, Alex solved the puzzles and Mark, affectionately known to Alex as Mr. Baby, got down on one knee to ask her to become Mrs. Baby. It was the perfect proposal, so very Alex and so very Them. As the wise Billy Crystal once said, "when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." This was no different for Mark and Alex, and, impatient to be husband and wife, they were married at home in a small ceremony by their good friend Jake on October 13, 2024. They are so excited to now be celebrating this marriage with all of their friends and family! Since Pine Hill is such a central part of their relationship, Mark and Alex are thrilled to be having their reception in the Catskills. They have been to the Phoenicia Diner many times, and cannot wait to introduce it to so many of their family and friends. They cannot wait to celebrate this milestone with you all!
