Lowell and Rachel first met at the University of San Diego. Lowell was a graduate student at the University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program, and at the time, Rachel was an undergraduate in the theater department. They were friendly throughout their years at school, enough to keep in touch after graduation. Two and a half years later, Rachel was visiting New York to attend an award ceremony for her mother, Amy Meyers, and staying the week in the city to meet with friends and family. Lowell and Rachel had made plans to get a drink while she was there to catch up, and that drink turned into spending the week together. After a year and a half of long distance dating, in the summer of 2019, Lowell decided to make the big move out west, and the two have been living together in Los Angeles ever since.
On the third anniversary of their first date, Lowell planned a special surprise. He told Rachel spontaneously he wanted to spend the night in Malibu, and to take one of their favorite hikes. Rachel was skeptical that an impromptu Malibu hotel could be found last minute on a weekend, but they decided it would be an adventure. After Rachel spent an extensive morning debating just what to pack, Lowell finally got her to the trail. The two got lost along the way, but that made it all the more special when they finally reached a stunning overlook, just at sunset. Rachel paused to take a picture to remember the moment, and when she turned, Lowell was down on one knee, asking her to spend the rest of their lives together. Rachel found out that he had booked a dinner reservation at her favorite restaurant that evening, and a room at a lovely hotel with champagne and a wildflower bouquet waiting for her. They spent the evening and following day laughing, smiling, and calling friends and family to share their wonderful news. They walked along the beach, had coffee and brunch watching seagulls on the shore, and tried paddle boarding (otherwise known as Lowell paddling Rachel on a board). It truly was the most magical two days for the couple, and they can’t wait for the many more that lie ahead.
