Bestie for Laura
In the 8th grade I named my first dog Tracy, after my friend Tracy Turner. Despite this, she has graciously accepted my invitation to be a Bestie for the wedding. We have been friends since the early 70's. Growing pains, ridiculous antics, cross-country moves (repeatedly), life celebrations and difficult good-byes, we have shared and supported each other through them all. We laugh a lot and make fun of ourselves and the unfortunate souls we decide are worthy of such attention. Tracy has two kids, Laura & David, and I am their Fairy Godmother. We somehow usually dress alike - plaid shorts, t-shirts and a baseball hat - but I can guarantee we will not for the wedding.
Bestie for Lisa
Alison was the first friend Lisa met when she moved to San Francisco in 1983. Alison is the glue and connector for groups of fun and friends. Lisa and Alison quickly started a solid friendship which continues deeply through today with time and age making this friendship precious and so very tried, true and special. They played, did volunteer work for AIDS groups, partied and connected with many friends. They attended or marched most annual gay parades together and Lisa got to be Alison’s coveted date on the back seat of her Dykes on Bikes motorcycle. The two have shared many holidays, travel and dinners and currently connect at Gay Film Fest movies, SF Gay Men’s Chorus and Broadway plays. The two dearest friends continue to explore spirituality, food and fun together.

We were both hired the same day in 1995 at the Public Defender's Office in San Jose. Sab is sarcastic, quick-witted, sharp-tongued, smart, judgmental, and not afraid to speak her mind, and we were a perfect match. We bonded instantly. Over the next 20+ years of work we spent 40 hours a week together. Sab knows me as well as anyone, and despite that she is a great friend. I almost feel like a part of her family, having spent all that time getting to know her husband and watching two sons grow from little guys to amazing young men. When I retired from the Public Defender's Office the only thing I thought I would miss would be Sab. I was right.

Lynn is the second friend Lisa met in California. Lynn and Lisa’s apartments were connected by an outside front balcony and fire escape. They would crawl out on the balcony to see if the other were home to say hello, hang out and watch tv or share a cup of tea (it was the 80’s but we won’t tell what was in the tea). Lynn, Alison and Lisa became a trio of the neighborhood, helping each other through good and tough times, even today. Lynn moved to Portland, OR which was unimaginable to the other trio members. But she found love with her Priscilla, who 3 years ago took possession of Lisa’s second kidney. Lynn is a caring, gentle spirit who is adored by Lisa and so many other friends and family. Lisa and Lynn share a love of animals, particularly Lynn’s golden retrievers and a doodle.

The first time I saw Marcus in 1979 he was dressed up as Frankenfurter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Not many men could pull that off but he could. We became quick friends, and now almost 40 years later he is a trusted and incredible friend. Marcus is one of those people that no matter what, he would drop everything to help if you called and needed anything. We can go months without talking or seeing each other and when we get together it's like no time has passed. I feel so lucky to count Marcus and his husband Gary as two of my dearest friends.
