If you'd like to do scuba diving, please make those arrangements directly with Jill at Stella Maris
The resort can arrange for bone fishing. We will be arranging for deep sea fishing but not for bone fishing trips
The resort is on the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic beaches tend to be very rocky. They are usually shallow pools protected from the surf. There is great tide pool exploring! A more secluded beach is available by walk (30 minutes) or resort shuttle with a natural pool to allow for wading (FYI there was a resort at this beach but no longer. The beach can have debris that washes up that isn't cleaned). A short car or bike ride to the Caribbean side of the island provides a relaxing day at Sandy Kay. Frequently listed as one of the top ten beaches in the world. The beach offers miles of flour sand beach, resort cabanas with hammocks and a lockable closet. Shallow snorkeling on the southern end of the beach and a resort to the northern end. Dean’s Blue Hole is located about an hour south and is a world famous diving location and also has flour sand beaches with shallow water. You can get a shuttle or rent a car to head to Dean’s. Ask about stopping at a conch shack along the way!
There are three generally available pools at the resort, one at the Atlantic beach and the other two at the main resort building. Two of the villas also have pools on the cliffs edges overlooking the ocean. There are no lifeguards at the pools or beaches.
Just sign up in the main building in the morning and the hotel will tell you when to show up.
Long Island is well long, 80 miles long. Stella Maris is located on the north end of the island. With Clarencetown and Deadman’s Cay to the south. You can rent a car or arrange for a trip with hotel (you do get to cross the Tropic of Cancer in a car) to the southern part of the island to explore both of these towns for cultural activities, restaurants, and shopping. To the north of island is the Columbus monument (it is suggested that you not drive to the monument since the road is more of a suggestion than an actual road; biking is possible). The drive to the north ends a great conch shack that is very representative of island life. You can kayak to the monument but it requires strong, experienced skills in a kayak as the tides can be very challenging.
The resort offers game fishing(we will have a couple of trips scheduled during the week) for Mahi, Tuna, and other species. There are also local guides you can schedule through the hotel that are really good. The island is also known for bone fishing(you can only keep one by law) and this trip is available through the hotel. Bone fishing is a fly fishing trip via kayak. There are two places to kayak on the island and the resort can provide transportation of you and the boat. Some of the kayaking spots require strong kayaking skills so ask lots of questions before you go!
The resort also offers eco tours of the island that last the whole day, there is a wealth of sea and wild life that you can see from hawks to sea turtles.
The resort also offers massage and other amenities you can ask Jill about either before you arrive or after arrival.
