How We Met

It was a tale as old as time...Boy meets Girl on last minute, COVID inspired camping trip. Boy was going to see a friend he had not spoken to in 10 years and Girl was along for the ride with her new roommates. Girl noticed Boy's height and good looks instantly, and Boy noticed Girl drove a Toyota (both very deep observations). Boy and Girl proceeded to last a whole day with only two sentences spoken to each other (they aren't awkward or nervous people at all). Girl (to friends within earshot of Boy): "I was just told I looked like a mountain mermaid by those random hikers over there - that may be the best compliment I've ever received" Boy: "You do kinda look like a mountain mermaid" Girl laughs a little but otherwise ignores Boy That night, around the campfire, some drama went down... Girl reached hand into the pot cooking some campfire nachos as she never turns down anything with cheese... Girl: "Ouch, that chip was hot!" Drunk Friend: "No, no it wasn't the chip, it must have been the cheese." Girl looks confused as she is very positive it was the chip... Boy, annoyed at the drunk guy for questioning this cute girl, speaks up... "Are you saying chips can't be hot?!?!" I won't say that Girl is a simple being, but someone defending her around a campfire regarding nachos definitely got her attention. Fast forward the rest of the camp trip with very few words exchanged... did I mention Girl and Boy are both a bit awkward? The next day Girl posts a photo on Instagram and Boy immediately comments with a Mermaid and Mountain emoji. Girl's first thought is "Oooo he must be interested" and decides to "Slide into his DMs" as the cool kids say or "Send him a message on Instagram" as the older people would say. Girl: "Hey, I'm moving to Utah in a month. Any places you recommend I check out when I first get there?" Boy: "How about you let me show you around - I know a really cool camping spot." Girl: "Sounds awesome" (no hesitation about camping with a pseudo-stranger somewhere with no cell reception - sorry mom) Boy and Girl make a very solid, very clear plan to meet at a gas station and caravan to the camping spot together. Atleast Boy thought it was a very clear plan. Girl, however, misreads the text completely, proceeding to drive 45min up the mountain with no cell reception, singing pump up songs to ease the nerves and not realizing until she is there that of course there is no gas station in the middle of the mountains and now she has no cell reception to reach Boy. Oh man was this embarrassing. Meanwhile, Boy is waiting patiently at the gas station wondering why Girl is so late and thinking hmmmm is it possible she drove all the way up? At the exact moment that Boy decides to drive up and see, Girl re-reads the text, realizes she is a dummy and drives back down to the gas station. Girl reaches the gas station with no sign of Boy and Boy reaches the top with no sign of Girl. Girl finally decides to drive the 45min back up one more time. She decided if she did not find him this time, it was not meant to be and she would just go home. Boy was having similar thoughts as he spent about 45min searching near the camp spot to make sure she was not there. Right as Boy was turning back onto the road to drive back down he sees Girl pulling in. Man, if that is not fate then I don't know what is. Girl and Boy laughed at the whole situation and ended up having an amazing camping trip. This ended up being one of many many dates to come and well, you know how it ends - THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED!!!

For all the days along the way
