FAQs

Here's a few answers to some of the questions we've been asked as we've embarked on planning this event. If you have questions please reach out to either of us! Oliver - 443-223-1866 Katie - 443-370-5101
Question

Why are you choosing to limit the guest list for the ceremony?

Answer

We know that this is on many people's minds and want to address it openly and honestly with all our lovely guests. In August 2019, we went camping in Acadia National Park and woke up before dawn to watch the sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain. This was a bucket list experience for Katie's father, Peter Mulhern, so we took the opportunity to call him just as daylight hit the East Coast. That was the last time either of us heard his voice, as he passed away 2 days later. As a result, Cadillac Mountain holds an incredibly special place in both of our hearts and getting married on the mountain is our way of incorporating him into our day. As we've always wanted to be married at a beautiful outdoor venue, the choice of exact location seemed clear to us. Unfortunately, this choice means we have to limit the numbers of our guest list, but it doesn't mean we don't want to spend time with those who are kind (and crazy) enough to make the trip to Maine to celebrate with us.

Question

Can we park at Captain Nickel's Inn?

Answer

The Inn itself has very limited parking: 1 spot for each room and three extras for our hosts and catering staff. As such, parking everybody at the Inn would be nigh impossible, and we humbly ask you not to attempt it and ruin their nice lawn. Instead, two businesses right up the street have kindly offered us their very large parking lots during the reception. The first is Searsport Self-Storage (149 E Main St, Searsport, ME 04974) who have offered up their lot as as long as we do not park directly in front of the storage units and block their customers' access. The storage facility is located behind a closed antiques mall, and we are welcome to use any of the parking spaces in/around this structures. The second business is Hamilton Marine (155 E Main St, Searsport, ME 04974), who are offering their front and back lots, but are asking us not to park in the spaces next to the front door so as not to block access to employees. These businesses are across the street from one another, so either will work equally well and both are less than a quarter mile away from the Inn, so the walk should take you about 5 minutes max.

Question

Are there other Rules/Regulations at the Captain Nickels Inn?

Answer

Apart from the limited parking at the Captain Nickel's Inn, there are really only two guidelines that are necessary for our guests to know, both of which pertain to the Inn being a very old, very beautiful venue. First, there is a zero tolerance policy for smoking anywhere on the Inn's grounds (inside or outside). In this case, zero tolerance means they will literally cancel our event, so if we could avoid having that happen, it would be much appreciated. Second, while the Inn is the venue for our reception and where some of our guests will be staying, it is not, so to speak, a "public" space. That's not to say you can't step foot on the property, just that we are trying to avoid it becoming a general gathering space outside of our reception. If you are staying in one of the rooms at the Inn, this obviously doesn't apply to you, go where you please. We'd highly recommend exploring Searsport and the surrounding towns when you're not actively at one of our events, it's a truly special part of the world (or at least we think so). Overall, please just keep in mind that the Inn is a lovely place, and we are trying to reduce wear and tear so that others can enjoy it after us!

Question

COVID-19, Destroyer of Dreams and Family Gatherings

Answer

We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic is constantly changing crisis and as such, planning an event which accounts for every possibility is a tad difficult. While we do not plan on masking during our weekend (as the COVID levels in Searsport, ME are minimal), we would ask that everyone who attends is double vaccinated, and boosted if at all possible. Thank you!
