Answer

You want to fly into Bucharest's Henri Coanda International Airport (OTP). This is 15 Minutes from Holly and Jesus's homes and 30 minutes from downtown.

Question

Is it hard to get to Bucharest?

Answer

No, from the East Coast of the U.S. you can do it in 2 flights from most major Airports (DC, NYC, MIA, ATL). For those near Miami, Turkish Airlines has the most direct route (Star Alliance) MIA to IST (Istanbul) and then IST to OTP (Bucharest). From within Europe its even easier - almost all major carriers fly here, and regional carriers such as Wizz Air and Ryan Air have multiple flights a day.

Question

What's the best way to get around Bucharest?

Answer

Driving can be a bit of a pain here. For those keen on having ultimate mobility - rental vehicles are available at the airport. For those more accustomed to the European style of travel, there is a rail terminal in the Airport that departs about every 20 minutes to the Gara De Nord (North Train Station) in the center of town. Uber and Bolt are great ride-share options (you can download the app from the app store) and are very inexpensive. We definitely recommend Uber or Bolt to get to and from the reception, which is about 30 minutes from our homes and 45 mins from downtown (only about 20 miles).

Question

What's the weather like in Bucharest in August?

Answer

Summers in Romania can get hot! Average temps this time of year range between a low of 64 degrees Fahrenheit to a high of 94 degrees Fahrenheit (18 C - 34 C). Occasionally it can get humid as well, but it is a very beautiful and temperate city with plenty to do outdoors.

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

We kindly request that serving military wear their uniforms if possible. There is a changing space if you wish to change into something more casual later in the evening. We don't believe in strict dress codes. Please wear what makes you feel comfortable so you can celebrate with us. The venue does have gravel and grassed areas outside to enjoy, guest may want to use sun protection if the sun decides to shine.

Question

Can I get by speaking English in Romania?

Answer

Yes, most Romanians have been educated in English as a second language during secondary school and it is widely spoken. However, taking the time to learn a few basic phrases can go a long way to help you receive a warm welcome from the locals. German is also widely spoken as a second language here, especially in Transylvania. Spanish speakers may find Romanian fairly easy to pick up as it is also a latin based language.

Question

How expensive is Romania?

Answer

Honestly, prices in Romania are very reasonable, and the exchange rate here for both the Dollar and Euro is roughly 5 to 1. Meaning 5 Lei to a Dollar / Euro. Most Uber rides around town will run no more than 5-20 Euros / Dollars (25 - 100 Lei). Rental Scooters are all over downtown and are even cheaper, and Bucharest (Bucuresti) is also a very walkable city. For those staying downtown, the Metro is also a very convenient way to sightsee and you can get a 10 trip card for relatively cheap (50 Lei / 10 Bucks) at the automated machines at each station.
