Gaston is a small town on a big lake in Halifax County, NC, which is just a few miles south of the Virginia border. We hope that you enjoy the cozy small-town and outdoor vibes the area has to offer. Below are some recommendations for things to do during your stay.

Cute distillery that offers tours and even historic trolley rides!

Weldon Mills Distillery

Roanoke Rapids is a historic mill town, and The Roanoke Canal Museum offers a glimpse into the city’s history and its role in the industrial revolution. It’s open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10-4. It’s the 5th stop on the Roanoke Canal Trail.

This is the quick link for the Roanoke Canal Trail map. There is even a chart for times and distances for shorter walk/hikes (it’s mostly flat with some river views). But for our most adventurous guests, the full trail is 7.8 miles long and 15.6 miles round trip. In June, this is will be a warm but beautiful hike!
