How We Met

Zags in Sweet Sixteen 2017

The Zags had the Sweet Sixteen game that day, and we were getting pumped up for the game at a party. Jenelle had some guts that day, and asked Ryan Caindec to introduce Joshua. It was easily the most awkward introduction ever and we didn't speak after that. About a month later, the night that Jenelle had got her job offer, she decided to text Joshua to see if he would be at Jack and Dan's that night, and the rest is history. We were inseparable, until Jenelle had to move back to Seattle after graduation.

Long Distance

May 2017 - June 2018

Throughout the next year, many trips were made from Seattle to Spokane and Spokane to Seattle to visit each other for as many weekends as we could. Each weekend was a reminder of our commitment to each other, and made the two weeks in between, worth it. Our relationship wouldn't be as strong as it is without the year of distance, and we are so thankful that we made it. Just out of curiosity, we calculated how many miles were traveled during that year of time, by plane and by car. We saw each other for 33 out of the 52 weekends of the year. Spokane is 278 miles away from Seattle. 33 weekends = 66 trips across the state. 66 trips x 278 miles = 18,348 miles in one year, and it was worth every single one.

How He Proposed

The Best Surprise EVER!!

The one thing that had to happen, was that it had to be a surprise for Jenelle. After a few failed surprise visits, Joshua noted that she is extremely difficult to surprise. Joshua enlisted the help of some of our closest friends, our parents and siblings to pull of the greatest surprise Jenelle has ever had. Overlooking Lake Sammamish at sunset, a dock was lined with candles. A white balloon arch welcomed them to what would be a moment neither of us would forget. Right when Jenelle saw the dock, she knew and immediately began SOBBING (like really sobbing). As she got to the end of the dock and turned around, she noticed our families and friends all watching from a distance, all while "Tenerife Sea" by Ed Sheeran played in the background (one of our favorite songs). Cue even more Sobbing. The moment was more than we both could have imagined and we feel blessed to have had family and friends support our relationship. And yes, Jenelle was SUPER surprised, nothing will ever top this moment, until August 10th, 2019.
